HOWDY EVERYONE!
My name is Jai. I'm a 27 year-old theatre actor from Manila, Philippines. And I am a BIG DREAMER. Just recently, I stumbled upon perhaps the BIGGEST opportunity of my life.
I got ACCEPTED to study in a 2-year Conservatory Program at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), specifically in its New York City campus, on a partial scholarship, too! Hopefully, I get to start on the 2020 Fall semester.
But being one of the elite performing arts training institutions in the world, AMDA is quite expensive. While I have been AWARDED A MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIP OF $7,000 A YEAR ($14,000) FOR THE WHOLE TWO-YEAR TERM, I'll still need some assistance to cover the remaining expenses, which include the tuition balance, miscellaneous fees, room and board, and everything else. I have my own income sources as well as other folks who can help outside of GoFundMe. Still, whatever amount you can donate will be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
As a huge musical theatre nerd, I've longed to be on the biggest stage of them all one way or the other. The bright lights of the Great White Way have been calling to me for ten years now, and with this incredible, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I'm one step closer to fulfilling that dream. One step closer, but there will be much, much more to go until I can realize a dream that few Filipinos can achieve.
Beyond the successes of the likes of Rachelle Ann Go (known for her role as Gigi on Broadway's Miss Saigon and Eliza Schuyler on West End's Hamilton) and, of course, the one and only Lea Salonga, who's to say there can't be another Filipino to be mentioned among those big names? The experience and skills I will gain from studying at AMDA NYC will catapult me to opportunities I never even imagined for the ten years that I've been in love with musical theatre. I'm also hoping that I can make my country and my fellow Pinoys proud.
VIDEOS AND OTHER SAMPLE PERFORMANCES will be uploaded and displayed here soon! I hope that by watching it, you will get to see how much this opportunity means to me, why AMDA took a jump by accepting me, and that you'll be among the kindest souls who will help me achieve it.
