It is with such a heavy heart that I write this. Last night, Monday for the 4th time in six months Waterfalls Old Age Home was broken into AGAIN !!! The only entertainment that the old folks had (their TV and little stereo) was stolen yet again. The fridges and freezers were broken into and all the meat and food was stolen. Before, the thieves would come onto the premises and go into the old folks rooms in broad daylight and steal their phones, kettles, toasters etc., putting their fingers to their lips in an intimidating way if spotted, telling them to keep quiet !! What would these old folk do against 2 strapping young men!!!!!! We raised money to put a wall all the way around and a gate that could be locked. We didn’t quite reach the target for a wall but managed to raise enough to put a huge fence with locked gates around the property. Great this stopped the theft for a while and then it began again ……. Man hole covers were stolen, which were returned and thieves apprehended but progressively things have been getting worse and last night was the cherry on the cake. Praise God the chickens that were pledged for Christmas haven’t been delivered yet and I haven’t delivered the Christmas shopping yet which will only be done this weekend. Christmas is saved but we have 3 weeks to go before then  How did they get in?? They cut through the wire at the back of the Home, removed the louvers in the dining room and successively emptied the fridges, freezers and entertainment lounge. My heart is so sore; I’m disappointed in humanity that they can take from the less fortunate and angry, so so angry. We toll to get the food in for meals, we rely on already stretched sponsors and donors and It took so long to get that TV, decoder and stereo, we battle to pay subscriptions but we got there and in one night it is all gone. Why steal from someone who has nothing, some of them don’t even have family to care about them???? Because they are easy targets!!! These guys are not stealing from Waterfalls Trust they are stealing from the old folk who can’t defend themselves. Where were the guards one might ask?? We cannot afford to have guards. We did look at employing some, but our already stretched budget just couldn’t fit that extra expense. Now I ask myself where do we go from here, how do we stop this and protect these vulnerable folk some who are 90 in the shade??? As much as I feel like throwing up my hands in despair and giving up I just can’t  these old folk need to have someone in their corner  We are now needing to put a wall around the premises with razor wire and sensors or alarms around the premises. The estimated cost iin an unstable economy is between +/- $20/25000 cash which would be marked up by 400%. I cannot do this with your help. These old folk depend on us to keep them safe and we depend on you.
