Who Am I?
My name is Junita, I am a young South African with a heart for the poor. I completed my triple major undergraduate degree (2015) at the University of the Witwatersrand as the top student the Commerce faculty as well as my Honors in Economic Science(2016) with Distinction and thesis publication in the Journal of Public Health.
I have been given the opportunity to pursue my masters in Data, Economic Development and Policy at my dream university- the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston.
I believe that in order to conquer the war against poverty, we need to obtain reliable and accurate data to truly understand the constraints that the poor face and subsequently implement meaningful public policy changes and innovative solutions. This course will further equip me to do so by learning from some of the top development Economists in the world such as Prof. Esther Du Flo.
Upon completion I wish to return to SA and work in South Africa aiming to improve public policy and efficiency. My sectors of interest are Health and Education.
Tuition costs alone are $27 00 and I have not been able to find a scholarship that will allow me to choose my university and without the requirement of 5 years full-time working experience.
