Please help Clara pay her hospital bills

Please help if you can. Clara had a brain hemorrhage and thankfully is recovering well but her hospital fees are piling up and she may continue to need treatment and/or care when she returns to the Philippines. Any help no matter the amount will be very much appreciated. We are working together with Clara's church to raise money for her so if you are in Korea, it may be easier for you to send a donation directly to the church and we can update the page with your donation. How we know Clara:

We have known Clara for five years. We first got to know her when she helped clean our house while I was pregnant and also helped to look after our cats while we were away. When our daughter was born she would also occasionally provide care for our child. She is a wonderful woman who has worked tirelessly throughout her time in Korea to support her family back home in the Philippines and now she is desperately in need of people to help and support her.

우리는 클라라를 5 년 동안 알고 있습니다. 처음에는 저의 임신기간 동안 클라아가 우리 집을 청소하는 것을 많이 도와주었고, 가끔씩 우리 고양이들을 돌보는 것을 도와주셨습니다. 나중에도 우리 딸이 태어 났을 때 가끔 클라라가 우리 아이도 돌 보았습니다. 클라라는 필리핀에서 고향에 있는 가족을 부양하기 위해 한국에서 일을 열심히 해왔고 지금은 클라라를 돕고 지원할 사람들이 절실히 필요합니다.

Why she needs help:

Clara recently suffered a brain hemorrhage and was in need of urgent medical treatment. Without immediate treatment she was at risk for more damage to her brain or even death. They inserted a stent into her brain and due to the nature of this treatment and the fact that she was not insured, her current medical bills now stand at 32 million won (30,000 dollars) and continue to increase the longer she remains in hospital.

클라라는 최근 뇌출혈로 긴급한 치료가 필요했습니다. 즉각적인 치료없이 클라라는 뇌에 더 많은 손상을 입히거나 심지어 사망할 위험이있었습니다. 클라라의 뇌에 스텐트를 삽입했고 이 치료가 아주 복잡하고 보험에 가입하지 않았기 때문에 현재 클라라의 의료비는 현재 3 천만원 (27,000 달러)이며 입원 기간이 길수록 계속 증가하고 있습니다.

Clara's current condition:

Clara has recently been moved from the ICU to the regular ward and is, thankfully, recovering well. She is able to eat and walk, and although her speech had been initially somewhat slower than usual, she is now sounding more like her normal self. The doctor said there are three major risks associated with her condition that can arise after treatment. Thankfully, the doctor seems to think Clara is no longer at risk of the first two however she is still under observation for the third, a build up of fluid in the brain. A previous scan showed that there was more fluid than before so the doctors are observing her for symptoms and we are currently awaiting the results of her most recent scan. If her condition worsens, she will need further treatment to remove the excess fluid. The doctor also noted that if her scans show no further increase of fluid in the brain, she may be ready to leave the hospital as early as next week but that she could develop symptoms a month or so later. Therefore there is still the possibility that she will need further treatment in the future. However, thankfully so far her condition does seem to be improving which we are very grateful for.

클라라는 최근 ICU에서 일반 병동으로 옮겨졌고 고맙게도 잘 회복되고 있습니다. 클라라는 먹고 걸을 수 있으며, 처음에는 평소보다 다소 느리게 말했지만 이제는 더 정상수준에 가깝게 말을 할 수 있습니다. 의사는 치료 후 발생할 수있는 클라라의 상태와 관련된 세 가지 주요 위험이 있다고 말했습니다. 고맙게도 의사는 클라라가 더 이상 처음 두 위험에 처해 있지 않다고 생각하는 것 같지만 클라라는 여전히 뇌에 체액이 축적된 세 번째 위험때문에 관찰하고 있습니다. 클라라의 전 스캔은 더 많은 체액이 있음을 보여 주었기 때문에 의사는 클라라의 증상을 관찰하고 지금은 가장 최근에 찍은 스캔의 결과를 기다리는 중입니다. 상태가 악화되면 과도한 체액을 제거하기 위해 추가 치료가 필요합니다. 의사는 또한 클라라의 스캔 결과 뇌의 체액이 더 이상 증가하지 않으면 다음 주에 퇴원할 준비가 되어 있지만 한 달 정도 후에 증상이 나타날 수도 있다고 언급했습니다. 따라서 앞으로 더 많은 치료가 필요할 가능성이 여전히 있습니다. 그러나 고맙게도 지금까지 클라라의 상태가 개선되고있는 것 같으며 우리는 매우 감사합니다.

Current support available:

We are so thankful that she seems to be recovering well and we feel incredibly lucky that we were able to get her to hospital when we did. We have contacted the Philippines embassy and they have informed us that they have begun the process and they are investigating her case in Manila. We have been told that if they judge that she is unable to afford the bills herself, then they will assist with her medical bills. However we were also told that this process is likely to take some time and that there is no guarantee as to the amount of support she could receive. We are currently waiting for more news from the embassy but every day she is in hospital the bills continue to pile up and it is likely she will be ready to leave the hospital before help arrives from the Philippines. If the embassy were to inform us that they are unable to help her then the hospital has said they can to try to reduce the bills, however we have not received a definitive answer yet. Even if they reduce the bills they will only reduce up to 25% maximum. The status of the reduction is unknown at this time. We appreciate this may happen, however it still leaves a very large sum outstanding. We have contacted numerous organizations but none as of yet have been able to help us.

우리는 클라라가 잘 회복되고있는 것 같아서 너무 감사하고, 더 심각해지기 전에 클라라를 병원에 데려갈 수 있었던 것은 믿을 수 없을만큼 운이 좋았다고 생각합니다. 필리핀 대사관에 연락하여 절차를 시작했으며 마닐라에서 클라라의 사건을 조사 중이라고 알려주었습니다. 클라라가 직접 의료비를 감당할 수 없다고 판단하면 의료비를 지원할 것이라고 들었습니다. 그러나 또한 이 과정에 시간이 걸릴 가능성이 높으며 클라라가 받을 수있는 지원의 양에 대해 보장할 수 없다고 들었습니다. 현재 대사관에서 더 많은 소식을 기다리고 있지만 클라라가 병원에 입원하는 날마다 의료비가 계속 쌓이고 필리핀에서 지원을 받기 전에 클라라가 병원을 떠날 준비가 다 됐을 가능성이 높습니다. 대사관이 클라라를 도울 수 없다고 연락이 오면 병원은 의료비를 줄이려고 노력할 수 있다고 말했지만 아직 확실한 답을 얻지 못했습니다. 의료비를 줄이더라도 최대 25 %까지만 줄일 가능성이 있습니다. 병원이 이렇게 해주신다고 하더라도 여전히 미결제 금액이 매우 많습니다. 우리는 수많은 기관에 연락했지만 아직 도울 수있는 기관은 없습니다.

Clara's recovery and future treatment:

We do not yet know when she will be released from hospital and therefore when these bills must be paid by, if and/or when the embassy can help her, and what her condition will be after she finishes her treatment. The doctor initially said that only around 30% of people make a full recovery therefore it is possible she will continue to need treatment of some sort in the future. Therefore we are trying to raise as much money as we can now to help cover some of her medical bills and then further down the line if the embassy does offer some support, we can then help support her for her future care in the Philippines.
