Hello, my name is Johanna and I am writing this for my son who has speech delay and some notable signs of autism (although he hasn’t been 100% confirmed autistic yet, as we do not have the means to go to special doctors in the city because of lack of money). He is going to be 5 years old this August 1, 2017, and my wish for him is that we can send him again to special needs school (this time for a longer period) so he can hopefully be able to talk and communicate effectively like other children his age.

Some signs we see that he has some degree of autism is that he: does not make eye contact, does not point at things, does not wave goodbye, screams incessantly if he cannot get or do something, does not play with other children, is unusually overactive, gets frustrated if he cannot make us understand what he says or wants, and he arranges his toys in a straight line.

As a mother, it breaks my heart that my only son is seen as different from other little boys. Even our closest relatives blame me and my husband that we are neglecting him – which is so opposite. We cannot send him to a normal school since he is prone to outbursts (if he cannot do what he wants or if he is forced to do things he doesn’t like) and he has no way to defend himself (if he is being bullied by his other classmates) or tell us what exactly happened (if an adult harms him) as he has no speech.

We tried to send him to a special needs school/facility, for an hour a day, but we find ourselves quickly running out of money (after 3 months) because it costs 500 pesos per hour each time for his therapy. My husband and I work at a call center (minimum wage), and each of us even tried to work extra hours so as to have more money for his therapy, but it is still not enough.

Carlo’s grandmother (my mom) tried to help us financially too, but after suffering from diabetic issues and in the process lost her job, she is now unable to help us out.

As he gets older, Carlo is struggling to get us to understand and figure out what he wants. He is unable to call us mommy or daddy, unable to tell he loves us, and worse he can’t tell us which part of him hurts when he’s sick or when something is wrong.

The only wish my husband and I would like for our son is simple and usually taken for granted by other parents – and that is, for him to be finally able to talk. Also to be able to grow up happy just like any other child.

He is an adorable, energetic, bright boy, and just like any other loving parent, we truly wish that he will enjoy his life to the fullest.

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your donation, no matter how small it may be. Every peso you donate counts, and will be used honestly for funding his educational therapy and medical needs associated with his condition.

I shall do my best to provide proof on his expenses and update you on his journey to a normal, happy life.

Johanna, Glenn & Carlo
