Please Help Bob to Build His Food Forest

Hi, my name is Babur, or you can just call me Bob. I am from Johannesburg, South Africa. I am building the very first Food Forest in South Africa. I am looking for funds to support my project.

Food Forest is a concept to feed communities with healthy food. Picture yourself in a place where -almost- everything around you is food. If you look carefully you can see fruits swelling on many branches – oranges, apples, pears, pecans, and chestnuts. Shrubs fill the gaps in the canopy. They bear raspberries, blueberries, and all other fruits, flowers, and nuts at different times of the year. On the ground, assorted local plants, wild edibles, herbs, and perennial vegetables thickly cover the ground. You can use many of these plants for food and medicine. Some attract beneficial insects, birds, and butterflies. Others act as soil builders. Food Forest is a balanced system based on "diversity". It can be anywhere, or any size, in your back garden, or in downtown city. Food Forest farming is about healthy food production in a "balanced" environment. Food Forest is an organically engineered, and a low maintenance ecosystem to feed people.

I have started my lifelong passion around 3 years ago. I sold my house in the city center, and bought one hectare plot in country side outside Johannesburg. I built my new house myself, and started the ground work to build my soil. I cleared all invasive trees in the property and used them in the filed to enrich the soil.

I only use ancient techniques to build the forest, some of them are the first time implied in South Africa. I don’t use GMO seeds, pesticides, hormones, or any other harmful chemicals. Instead, I use horse manure from next door, and make my own organic compost.

My goal is to bring my food forest fully developed within five years from today. After fully developed, I can then convince people on the benefits of this cause. People want to see something built before they make up their mind. I want to spread the word, and teach these practical, but long forgotten ancient methods to the communities to build their own food forest(s) so they can feed themselves healthily.

Also, I want to prove the point that a food forest will provide more food, and healthier food than the current monoculture techniques. I want to prove that we can do without chemicals. Our grandparents didn't grow up with pesticides and hormones, and so should we.

I am asking for donations to support this concept that will create more jobs in the future, as well as teaching societies to feed themselves.

I need R150000 (about USD 12,000 with today's rate) to get my Food Forest going. The funds will be used to buy trees, and enriching the soil.
