Please Help Athena Mae TREAT Chronic Myeloid Leukemia And RECLAIM HER HEALTH!

On the 20th of April this year (2018) Athena Mae Iglesias Cosares, 10 years old who lives in the countryside in Philippines which is Brgy. Victory Caibiran, Biliran came to Manila to spend a part of her summer holiday prior to commencing grade 5 in June.

After a few days here in Manila, we noticed a rapid decline in weight coupled with a bloating of her stomach. This was uncharacteristic as she has always been an active and a picture of perfect health. Since her mother cannot see very well due to cataract and is considered a person with disability SHE HAS BEEN HER MOTHER'S EYES, to go to church and everywhere. She is the eldest of three children. She’s a conscientious and responsible little girl who does her share of house chores. She's a sweet girl who has utmost respect for her elders and her peers. She's obedient but also has her own mind. At school, she is one of the top students. She is a Kid for Christ (KIDS-FOR-CHRIST), God-fearing and actively participates in all church activities.

When our parents (Athena’s grandparents) arrived here from the province for their Couples for Christ (CFC-FFL Family) anniversary, our mother noticed the same way too so she asked my sister (her aunt Lyn Marie) to go with her and decided to take Athena to the doctor right away as everyone was alarmed at the sudden change in her health. The doctor from the clinic could not tell mama about Athena’s condition, so they were referred to the Philippine Children's Medical Center to get a second opinion. The diagnosis given to us that time was hyperleukocytosis t/c CML and she had to be admitted because of the high white cell count. This is the first time that our family experienced that a young member suffers from a grave medical condition IT PAINS US SO. Right after getting the BCR ABL FISH Test result, the time when I was rendered speechless tears were welling up on this diagnosis the doctor told she is suffering from Chronic Myelogenous/ Myeloid Leukaemia or CML which necessitates LIFETIME TREATMENT requiring a million pesos or two a year. This crowdfunding has been at the suggestion of a friend as we, her family are UNABLE to raise the funds for ongoing treatment and medication.

Athena Mae's clash with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia is everyone's struggle. Her courage to fight gives us hope to conquer the battle.
