Dignity Kits to keep Girls in School

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

Thank you for supporting Phase 1 of this initiative in which we are supporting adolescent girls in the under-served areas of Kenya with dignity kits. No girl should miss school because of her period!

For Phase 2, we are focusing on 1,000 young girls in Mukuru kwa Njenga slums in Kenya who lack access to basic necessities of life such as menstrual pads, underpants and soap. In the course of working with them on sexual and reproductive health sensitisation, these young girls have cited the high cost of these commodities as the biggest challenge. As a result, some of them are forced to either endure the indignity of using unsanitary and ineffective materials to catch their menstrual flow; or to withdraw from social set ups e.g. dropping out of school. In other regions in which we operate, desperate girls have been forced to the extremes of engaging in transactional sex to get pads and even committing suicide from the trauma associated with these levels of indignity.

At Live Healthy Initiatives, we have been providing providing Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health awareness; donating dignity kits to underprivileged girls, and spearheading advocacy for thousands of young girls within vulnerable groups in Kenya who need help.
