Our kick-off is a worthy one. I have always loved animals and missed the opportunity to study in any direction involving them. The next thing one wants to then do, is get involved in giving to the causes concerning animals. Even along these lines I was hampered by lack of finances. Then it struck me: I can use my HANDS. Where others may have the joy and fulfillment of being up close and personal with animals, my hands can dance and flow across the ebony and ivory of a piano for a whole night to generate funds. The institutions I chose are the Letaba SPCA (Tzaneen),
where a handful of volunteers tackle a mammoth task every day...and close every day with success and excellence. That takes care of a place that cares for mostly, but not only, domestic animals.
The other choice fell on a wildlife sanctuary in our area: SanWild. Founded and run for many years by Ms Louise Joubert,
fervent fighter for any kind of wild animal left distressed, injured, traumatized, orphaned - her beloved foster-children lost their champion when she tragically lost her life in an accident just a few weeks ago. For these two organizations, spearheaded by their two leading ladies, often working shoulder-to-shoulder, heart-to-heart, I will be playing the piano from 18:00 on 29 May through to 06:00 on 30 May in the Le'Thaba Restaurant of the Fairview Hotel in Tzaneen, Limpopo, South Africa. A minimum sponsorship of R250 for the night (which works out a little more than R24 per hour), will be gratefully received. A CD with my own compositions, with a song specifically addressing the matter of mankind's negligence in fulfilling their God-given task of ruling over and caring for nature and its inhabitants, will be a token of our heartfelt gratitude for support. This sparks the beginning of several planned events that will be hosted in order to raise funds for selected charities and NGO's. As our hearts lead we will follow...
