Piso Para Sa Laban Ni Leni

Last June 2016, defeated VP candidate Bongbong Marcos filed a protest with the Philippine Electoral Tribunal (PET), challenging VP Leni Robredo’s victory and seeking a recount in over 130,000 precincts.

In response to these charges of electoral fraud, VP Leni filed a counter-protest, for which the PET has required a cash bond of P15.44m.

While Marcos had no trouble paying his required cash deposit of P66M+, Leni had to dive into her personal savings and accept loans from relatives to cover her initial payment of P8M.

THE CHALLENGE

Piso para sa laban ni Leni started out with a few containers with coins from friends who wanted to help VP Leni in the SC recount of ballots. The contributions have now reached 1,937,676.30 Pesos (as of July 14, 10:30 am). It is a show of people's initiative to protect their sacred votes for VP Leni Robredo. The contributions are being audited by Julito O. Tabalba & Associates, CPA.

The PISO PARA SA LABAN NI LENI campaign aims to raise funds to help cover the cost of the remaining P7.44 million required for VP Robredo’s part of the election case.

As a government official, VP Leni is prohibited from accepting donations from the public for this purpose. To address this challenge, a group of women filed a petition with the PET last June 27 2017, asking that they be allowed to participate in VP Leni’s cash bond by paying a portion of the required amount directly to the electoral body.

OUR SOLUTION

The women, all awardees of The Outstanding Women in the Nation's Service (TOWNS), are: Museo Pambata founder Nina Lim-Yuson; former Human Rights Commissioner & columnist Paulynn Paredes Sicam; singer Celeste Legaspi-Gallardo; former BCDA Board member Mel Alonzo; former DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman; and Ateneo de Manila University Press Director Karina Bolasco.

Should the PET grant the petition, all proceeds from the PISO campaign shall go straight to the PET. If the appeal is junked, or if we raise funds in excess of what's required, your contributions will be donated to Angat Buhay, the OVP’s program that works with partner organizations to fight poverty. This privately funded program has helped over 36,000 indigents since October 2016, when it was first launched.

Absolutely none of the funds raised will pass thru VP Leni’s hands.

LONG-TERM IMPACT

More than helping VP Leni, this community effort signifies our resolve as ordinary Filipino citizens in making a stand and protecting our votes. We made our choice clear in last year’s National Elections. Let us make our voices heard once more.
