Pio’s Brain on Fire

I am Mae and I am Pio's fiance. We are about to get married and start our family with the baby inside me but things started to change and stunned me for I am not expecting nor ready for this.

Pio is a nice and outgoing man, an aspiring writer, a friendly one, a traveler and a person who is willing to spend his birthday to give gifts to the needy. As a son and a brother he is a sweet one who cherish ever moments he is spending with his family. As a man of my life, he is always there to cheer me up, a person who can stand my attitude even if sometimes I am grumpy and stubborn and most of all he shows me the love that I ever wanted, he taught me that Love is the most wonderful that ever happen to Human's life, that love can make you happy, sad, mad but despite of all he is still the person you wanted to grow old with, watching free movies on the cinema's, enjoying the perks of being a senior citizen and looking back to the memories that we shared together.

But like the book/movie "Brain on Fire", everything is normal until he had a seizure last December 21,2016, admitted at Makati Medical Center and was diagnosed with Encephalitis. He forgot us for a moment. He forgot my name, our baby and sometimes he always kept on repeating the same question every 5 minutes. He had 4 sessions of dialysis due to his creatinine level increases rapidly. We spend Christmas, New Year and Three kings at the hospital. As time goes by, the Doctor's still can't figure out the cause of his encephalitis. They can't see any virus or bacteria. As time goes by we taught that he is getting better even though not knowing the real diagnosis, his memories came back and we got discharge last January 9, 2017.

We went back to his home with his family for his recovery. Everything went well and we resume to our wedding plans, about us and about our baby. I am really elated at that time for as I taught that everything is started to fall on its place but it for temporary. After almost two weeks outside the hospital. Around 4 am of January 23, he had 15 seizures and we brought him again to Makati Medical Center, hallucinations occir. Doctors are still trying to find out what causes it but his blood cultures, MRI and other tests can't give us a clear results of what causes his illness. One of his Neurologist recommend us a new lumbar tap to get fluid samples from his spine and will ship out all the way to Spain for further examination if he has Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. also know as Auto immune Encephalitis (like the illness of Susannah Cahalan of Brain on Fire). I am still hoping and wishing that it is other wise, that we can find what virus or bacteria it is so that we know how to cure it so that when everything is over, we can start all over again with our baby. Having a happy and complete family like others. That is all that I want, to spend more years with him, to marry him over and over again.

I know I am not good on narrating stories and I don't have guts to read this all over again to proof read because I might cry again but I am here, hoping for some of your time and help to donate us some money for his Hospital bills and medicines. Any amount is much appreciated. Please also pray for his full recovery for I still want to be with him for the rest of my life.
