This is to get 5 rescued horses ( and a passel o' cats, too..) out of Thailand and to USA. It takes a double decker 747 cargo plane to airlift horses and they go into carrier stalls, 3 to a carrier and the rate is charged per carrier at about $ 27,000 USD. Yes, very expensive but in Thailand the airlines make you use an agent who takes a hefty cut to spread it around. Corruption is the only way to get anything done.
So it will take 1 carrier for the three larger horses and the smaller two ponies can be put in separate hand made crates.
Once in USA the quarantine fees will be about $ 10,000 in total as they must have tests and remain at a facility for 7 full days, with blood tests ( before shipping, too)and transport from LAX to a huge retirement ranch in east Texas with 1500 acres.
While one can work but is 20 yo now ( Lamburg) , the other four have chronic issues and cannot. Please read their stories on WWW.PhuketHorseRescue.com and Facebook.com/PhuketHorseRescue.
I know it is crazy to spend this kind of money, but the first alternative is to pawn Lamburg, who can work, and Beautiful -Girl who can be bred (though she shouldn't be as there are many health issues) to Thai run stables and those places are not fit for horses. Not one of them have any land for turn out. It simply isn't required or considered a necessity, and there are no laws ( or rather enforced ) that protect horses from abuse or neglect.
I have pictures of a " 5 star" stable in Phuket from when I first arrived that, in USA/UK/EU/AUS, would land the owners in jail, and unable to own horses ever again. Every foreigner who loves horses and comes to Thailand to get involved with local stables has the same story- HORRORS!! Also Thais, the majority with their Buddhist beliefs, will not put chronically ill or suffering horses down, they prefer to leave them rotting in stalls, sometimes for years.
The second alternative is for me to put them down, and while I am OK with doing that, although it will kill me, as it is better than abandoning them, I am hoping I can simply , well RESCUE THEM and get them OUT of THAILAND!! So I am trying this.
I have to leave Thailand by mid January, 2015 please help me, and them... Thank you!! Christy K. Sweet, # 14 162 Moo 1, Cherng-Telay, Thalang, Phuket 83110 Thailand, ( 66) (0) 84 842 4581
