Phone Off, Phone On

Hi!

This is the story about a girl... a 28 year old, trying to start a business. I am Liana. I am a qualified Biochemist that has a passion for technology and science.

The challenge of starting your own business in South Africa is not an easy one. It is even harder when your mobile phone's battery does not last long enough for you to read up on "Starting Businesses for Dummies". My phone is plugged into the wall most of the time, taking me back to the 90's when I had a landline....

My vision:

Selling and leasing secure mobile & permanent mobile phone charging lockers (coin operated & free) fully branded in the logo/ colours of choice.

My mission:

Empowering other qualified ladies (with a trade/degree) to drive this initiative with me.

Use profit to train ladies that are interested in the fields of science and technology.

Expanding to service all sectors (gym, restaurants, pubs, campuses) using only female technicians and sales personnel to service the charging stations.

The reality:

It's nearly impossible these days to keep a small business running with money drawn from your own pocket. Whether it's purchasing inventory, hiring new employees, or opening additional locations, any type of expansion requires extra working capital. The fact that it's becoming increasingly difficult for small business owners to secure funding through a bank makes it even more challenging.

The solution:

With a little capital, I can order and import my first models, selling them at a 50% profit margin. I have a network that is connected to all the bars, pubs, clubs and restaurants in Pretoria East. Later, I will target Virgin Active, TUKS, TUT campuses. Customers can choose between a model that operates on their electricity and offer a free service to their clients (because we all know, how many times your phone has died on you while at the bar with your friends) or a paid service using coins.
