Petrinja, Croatia Eartquake Urgent Help

As many of you have heard, a magnitude of 6.4 earthquake has struck central Croatia with reports of countless injuries and at least seven confirmed deaths. This is the largest earthquake that has happened in Croatia since 1880.

There were over forty earthquakes that occurred in the last 72 hours in Central Croatia and aftershocks are still ongoing in this territory.The country of Croatia is faced with economic instability and financial anxiety for many households.

We are witnessing this horrible natural disaster and we want to provide help to those badly affected and in dire need of assistance with medical and financial help. The Croatian Nurses Association community was on the ground the last few days where they experienced a chaotic event in the Sisak-Moslavina region (Petrinja, Glinja, Sisak etc). We provided the people as much as we could with basic goods and gave temporarily accommodation.

The Silaj family is gravely suffering from losing their home in Petrinja. Ana Silaj, a 23years old nurse and a part-time student who is a member of the Croatian Nurses Association.

Ana lost her father 11 years ago and has been taking care of her grand-mother, mother, and sister. She carries the financial burden of the family on her shoulders and with the crisis that unfold, the family now faces uncertainty and threats of survival.

Her story deeply moved us that we must act and demonstrate courage and solidarity. The lives of the Silaj family changed dramatically and we will use the donation funds to cover the construction costs for their home.
