Genre:

Family drama

Logline:

An Ex-convict attempts to gain his mother's forgiveness only to spiral back into his old vices when he learns to manipulate food delivery systems.

Synopsis:

After ten long years in prison, Rahman returns home to his family only to realize that his father had died while he was in prison and his mother had been left abandoned to fend for herself against the harsh realities of life.

Now, he tries his best to take up the role his father left for him and provide for the needs of his ageing mother through his new food delivery service job. But upon realizing unique ways he can manipulate the delivery service system to get free items, he now struggles between reverting to his old corrupt ways for the sake of his mother or truly turn over a new leaf.

What inspired the story?

“What inspired me to write this story is me thinking about delivery riders. People often discriminate against them for being a delivery rider and don’t think of the hassles they have to face while working.

Also, I wanted to tweak it by making the protagonist an ex-convict, which is more impactful as people tend to stereotype ex-convicts. My aim is to put the audience into an ex-convict shoe and understand what drives them to commit such actions. It could be by choice or something that pushes them to their limit, we never know.”

- Nur Shazriena Bte Othman (Production designer/Story originator)

Director’s statement:

"This short film focuses on the life of an Ex-convict who tries to make up for his past mistakes but found that the temptation to do wrong still lurks in his blood. I was inspired by the idea of people being ideally good or bad. In life, I've learnt that good and bad aren’t points in a diagram but more of greyscale and understanding the consequences of one's actions provides better insight into the situation. When we see the bigger picture, it becomes harder for us to dictate if ones doing were immoral or justified. While watching this short film, I hope the viewer can experience a change of perception as to morality in general. I want to immerse them into a situation where they see the struggles of what an ex-convict goes through. The hardships, consequences and choices that they would make and why they would choose to do so. I want the viewers to really understand that everyone has a little good and a little bad in them and that it is our choices, be it forced or chosen, that leads to the outcome."

- Rodriguez Glenayre Aquino (Director/Story writer)
