Peru Wind Turbine Project

After I have completed my studies I will pursue a career in renewable energies and reducing our impact on the environment. Therefore, in pursuit of this aim, I have volunteered to assist the WindAid charity in the summer of 2017. The project is for the construction of wind turbines in developing communities in Peru to provide them with clean, renewable energy while addressing the issues of climate change. The turbines last 20 years helping improve educational prospects, improve standards of living and support start up businesses.

The turbines are funded completely through the volunteer registration fee of $3000 (NZD) which also covers our living expenses during the 4-week project. More information about the charity WindAid can be found at their website www.windaid.org.

This project not only provides electricity to a community in need, it also encourages sustainable power development, teaches me valuable lessons about community, culture and engineering practices and the significant difference we can make to others’ lives, and it also increases visibility for companies that support the cause.
