Project Envision Nigeria (PEN) Foundation—established in 2015— is a non-profit organization located in Abuja, Nigeria, whose mission is to provide disadvantaged children access to quality education and reduce the alarming illiteracy rate in Nigeria. We believe knowledge is power and a fundamental human right for all. Through education, we can improve the quality of life for these vulnerable and disenfranchised families.
To accomplish our mission, we equip Nigerian households with essential resources, life skills, and access to social and health services to create a just and equitable society for all. We use innovative and sustainable approaches in an integrated and holistic manner to enhance the lives of Nigerian children and youth. Through quality education and literacy, we empower Nigerian students to contribute positively to their community and build a prosperous and more secure Nigerian nation.
The P.E.N Foundation Scholarship Project stems from the fact that Nigeria’s educational system is in assorted crises of infrastructural decay, neglect, waste of resources and sordid conditions of service. The country has over 10 million out-of-school children. That’s the highest in the world. Another 27 million children in school are performing very poorly. Millions of Nigerians are half-educated, and over 60 million – or 30% – are illiterate. On top of this, many eligible young Nigerians can’t gain admission into public universities. The Scholarship program is designed to assist top students in high school from various selected public schools that are unable to sustain quality education. Each recipient will be selected based on merit while also maintaining a GPA of 3.5. This will be awarded every year the student will be in school.
