Peddie Girls and Boys Crew – Race Day Snacks & Food for Spring 2016

Update posted by Peddie Crew Team Parent Volunteers On Jul 18, 2016

Sorry for the delay in getting the last 2 races posted to the website. The end of the rowing season was followed by prom and three days later graduation. It was a fantastic whirlwind but sometimes frantic. Below are a variety of senior photos from the sports banquet (notice Barb is sporting the girls favorite sweater), college t-shirt day, prom and graduation.

I also wanted to thank all of the parents and coaches for being so helpful and supportive throughout the season (big thank you to Barb for coaching 2 practices a day throughout the Spring - the girls actually got to like the 5:30 a.m. arrival at the Lake). Donations, supportive messages, helping hands and baked goods were all greatly appreciated. I also wanted to thank you all for sharing your children with the Peddie community. They are the heart of what makes Peddie such a special place. The caring and wonderful teachers and coaches are the soul. Together, they are something truly special. My wish for each student athlete is that they continue to reach for the stars, find their passion and run (or row) with it, and stay connected...Ala Viva!

The Mid-Atlantic Youth Championship hosted at Mercer Lake had entries from 49 schools/clubs from the Mid-Atlantic region. All of the Peddie boats races on Saturday. Due to predicted high winds on Sunday late morning, the Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships schedule was adjusted on Saturday per USRowing’s Adverse Weather Policy. Accordingly, semifinals for the non-qualifier events scheduled for Sunday morning were eliminated. Finals in these events were seeded from the heat results - top 2 advancing to Finals. This change lead to the cancellation of some of the semi-finals and impacted one of the Peddie Womens boats, see below.

SATURDAY RACE RESULTS:

Womens and Mens Novice 8+ boats came in 3rd in their respective heats;

Womens and Mens 1V4+ placed first in their heats, advancing to semi-finals; both boats places 3rd in their respective Semi-Final heats qualifying them both for Finals on Sunday;

Womens 2V4+ placed 4th in their heat, qualifying them for Semifinals. Semifinals for this group were subsequently cancelled due to predicted high winds and only the top 2 in each heat qualifies for Finals;

Womens 3V4+ places 2nd in their heat, qualifying them for Finals;

Mens 2V 4+, 3V4+ and 4V4+ all qualifies for Semi-Finals placing 1st, 2nd and 2nd in their respective heats.

SUNDAY RACE RESULTS:

Womens and Mens 1V4+ places 5th and 4th respectively;

Womens 3V4+ places 2nd in their heat and medaled;

Three Peddie boats were in the Mens 4+ 2nd Final Race. It was quite a site to see. The Mens 3V4+ came on strong and won the heat with the Peddie 2V coming in 3rd earning them both medals, the 4V2+ rowed hard and came in 6th. The boys were so excited (and a little distracted) that they topped their boat when they returned to the dock...everyone went overboard!

It all came down to the wire on Saturday after Peddie and Blair tied in the races. The deciding factor was the time differential which went to Blair. Congrats to Blair!
