Reportedly 1in 125 children born in Moldova in 2022 were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Children with physical or mental disabilities in Moldova typically do not participate in general classroom programs. Autistic children are forced to access separate educational facilities or to be homeschooled, which severely affects their families financially.

🙋 What is autism?

Autism or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain, which severely affects their ability to communicate, adapt, and interact with others. Autism cannot be cured, however diagnosed children receiving proper care can learn to live with little to no support in their adulthood.

❤️ Why do we care?

Autism is one of the most frequent disabilities detected in children. It is more frequent than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes, or down syndrome. Sadly, the number of autistic children is increasing every year.

Each one of us struggles with everyday challenges in these difficult times. However, children with disabilities in a country with a poor support system and limited facilities are even more affected by external factors, such as the economic crisis and the war in Ukraine. We cannot ignore them. We decided to help them, and we need YOUR help to make this happen.

🚴‍♂ How?

5 Moldovans will cycle 420 km (261 miles) on bikes in 5 days along the Western border of Moldova (from Criva to Giuggiulesti).

✅ The goal of the campaign

We plan to raise 5,000 euro to build and equip a therapy room within an existing center for children with autism spectrum disorder. This project will help hundreds of children to develop their sensorial abilities and increase their skills to interact and communicate with others. All funds will be donated to “Sprijin and Speranta” NGO in Ungheni, Moldova, which has served since 2019 to help children with autism and their families.
