Peace March – Never Forget Srebrenica

On July 11, 1995 the Bosnian and Herzegovinian town of Srebrenica became victim to one of the worst atrocities to which the modern world has been witness. Over 8,300 men and boys were brutally murdered at the hands of Serbian Forces and hundreds of thousands of Bosnian and Herzegovinian residents left without homes, family members, or hope for any salvation.

Over the last 20 years, these same residents have struggled to find peace and justice in their own country as well as many other countries in which they sought refuge in hopes of escaping further brutality.

Twenty years later, we hope to mark this date as not only a date of remembrance but a date of progress.

On July 11, 2015, Bosnian American Association of Richmond, VA will have the first official Peace March in commemoration of 20 years since the July 11, 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica. By walking in unison the streets of a place that many Bosnian Herzegovinians call home today, we hope to raise awareness of a tragedy that has not only plagued the lives of many twenty years ago, but continues to be
large part of the pain that we all carry with us daily.

For many, the idea of finding and being able to bury their loved ones has begun to seem an unattainable dream. For others, every year, this date is a reminder of a life to which they will never be able to return.

However, our goal is to show not only the hurt that will be a permanent part of every person from Srebrenica, but to also showcase the community bond that we hope to establish in the country of United States Of America. We also hope to peacefully expose residents of USA to the global tragedies that have brought many residents to this great nation and encourage involvement in movements that will prevent this history from repeating.

We ask for your generous donation to our cause to continue the education and immersion of Srebrenica refugees in American communities while continuing to support and educate the victims of this genocide that still reside and struggle in our home country, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
