The rapid growth of online retailing has become a significant threat for brick-and-mortar retailers as time constrained and tech-savvy consumers seek greater depth of product choice and availability, along with the convenience of ordering online. In addition the rising demand for mall technology to adequately make the jump to technologize and ease customer use. This growing trend toward digital retail puts both shopping malls and retail real estate investment trusts (REITs) under enormous pressure to improve foot traffic and increase sales for their retailers.
PayPlax© is the conceptual interface we have been developing to bring the shopping experience of South Africans to the future. Inspired by prosperous malls such as the Emirates in Dubai and the Mall of America in Minnesota, PayPlax is a cross platform, data driven application, designed to maximize the consumer and retailer’s shopping experience.
Shopping malls must find a way to assist their retail partners in creating relevant, personalized and engaging shopping experiences. When shoppers do enter physical locations, they increasingly expect to walk into experiences, not stores.
To succeed, shopping malls must look at the changing times as an opportunity to leverage technology to improve customer experience and engagement. To become a destination that delivers an immersive and intuitive experience. At PayPlax we don’t only believe in temporary fixes to the growing retail collisions, but rather strive for cohesion between forces by the use of technological benefits and studying the open data to produce actionable dynamic solutions.
The main functions of PayPlax will be:
- Improving location awareness- The thrill of a mall was often the convenience of having all your amenities and desires localized and at your convenience. The rise of online shopping has become a direct threat to that factor, however in South Africa where malls are still extremely prevalent as sources of entertainment and shopping, streamlining location awareness would eliminate the deterrent of searching in the mall. By using state of the art IPS (Indoor Positioning Systems) triangulating, WIFI, GPS and Bluetooth for increased accuracy, Payplax will be able to render life like detailed maps of the malls interior and direct customers through the complex. Not only will this improve the interaction of consumers and retailers as they will be more accessible but it will also improve foot traffic and congestion around kiosks as the information would be available through the mobile app.
- Paying for your parking- We want to veer of from the traditional pay point and all its problems. No more standing in cues and digging in your bag for change as you can pay for your parking by simply scanning the QR code on your parking ticket.
