Paying fees to avoid serving in the Syrian Army

Hi there,

My name is Ahmad Alabbas, and I'm from Syria but I have been born and brought up in Saudi Arabia and I know nothing about my country of origin...

1-year ago I met online my GF Siti Aminah who is from and lives in Indonesia, and we have immediately fallen in love and began a long-distance relationship in hopes of one-day meeting in real life and getting married.

We immediately started working hard and doing our best to save up in hopes that one day we will meet. Fast forward to today and after 1-year of hard work and extreme saving (eating the cheapest food, not leaving the house or spending money on anything fun related, working +10 hours daily including on weekends) we have finally saved up enough money (4,000$) for me to travel to her and get married which should enable me to stay with her in Indonesia.

We were so happy, but our happiness was short-lived...

Last week we found out that for us to get married, I need permission from the ministry of interior in my home country, Syria.
I immediately prepared all my documents and spent some of the money that me and my GF saved to hire a representative for me in Syria who will help me deliver the documents and get the approval for our marriage.

My application got rejected...

I was told that for me to get that permission, I should do one of two things...

1- Either serve in the Syrian army (its compulsory in Syria)
2- Pay a fee of 8,000$ to avoid serving

Only after I do one of those two things I will be given the approval which will allow me to marry the love of my life and be able to live with her and fulfill our dreams and goals.

This news broke me and my GF Aminah. We have worked so hard and lived a miserable life for an entire year just to save enough money for us to meet and start a decent life.

And all that wasn't enough, we need double that amount which will take us 2 additional years to save up to first pay off my military fees, get the marriage approval and then meet and get married.

This is why I turned to this site in hopes of getting help from kind people who might be willing to help me overcome an obstacle in life that I played no part in and have no control over; being born as a Syrian man and having my country of birth deny me a basic human right, the right of marriage.
