I am a college student at Clark University searching for perspective. Both my parents have devoted their lives to helping others; my mom is a special education teacher who does respite on the weekends for autistic children, and my dad teaches music to a wide range of people including special needs children. Both my parents raised me to be kind to others and our family participates in community service projects often. For the past few months I have been dealing with a bout of depression that has forced me to look at my life differently. I believe that if you can find something that makes you truly happy all the way to your core then you have really lived. I am in search of that feeling along with the gift of perspective. I want to figure out what brings me joy and so far community service is just that, but I want to go deeper and find a cause I want to devote my life to helping just like my parents. This summer I would like to travel to a foreign country through global volunteer and participate in a service program that I feel particularly passionate about. I need to raise about $5000 dollars on my own because not only do my parents not make much in their field of work but my father has recently taken ill and all their money is going to help pay his mounting medical bills. Please help me find happiness and perspective so I can share my findings with others who are in need of some happiness. Thank you.
