Our ‘Paws for Ukraine’ team are made up of just three. Within a week, we have planned, reasearched and taken action to get out to Ukraine and the surrounding borders and to do whatever it is we can do to help. We have a vet nurse, we have someone who also has experience in logistics, animal handling, including animals in trauma, and will be joined later by a vet surgeon, and we plan to be out there until the end of April.

As we progress with this project, things may change, due to the fluid nature of the situation, but what won't change is our determination to help to make some difference to those animals in conflict, as well as assisting those people who we can help along the way.

Our support vehicle, full of much needed veterinary supplies, will soon be on its way from Scotland to the border of Ukraine. Once at the border, then we, as Paws for Ukraine, will be joining up with others already on the ground, and entering Ukraine to help in the rescue, care and treatment of animals caught up in the conflict.

Animals that have been caught up in the conflict are being found and rescued, where it is possible to do so, and are being taken to shelters within safer areas of Ukraine as well as shelters outside of the country. These animals, mostly dogs, are being found starving, severely dehydrated, injured or are even suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It really is a desperate situation for all caught up in this dreadful war. However, our team will do whatever it is we can to help those animals and support others who are helping to make a difference.

We will help wherever we are needed, helping abandoned animals, stray animals and supporting the Ukranian people in the care of their companion animals as they flee from parts of Ukraine targeted by Putin’s military bombardment.

As we are all self funded, we are reaching out to you to help with some of our expenses during this trip. Fuel will be our biggest expense, from Scotland to Ukraine (return) and then driving about in Ukraine, particularly with the cost of fuel as it is. There are many other costs, some unseen, that we have and will continue to incur throuout the journey.

Thank you
