Paul Andrei’s Heart

Paul Andrei B. Cabagay is five (5) years old and a vibrant, active, and intelligent kid that needs a life.

But after two (2) hectic and threatening eye-impairment operations done in the year 2019 and lately, last March 2022 now faces another challenge and test of life.

“Life is a choice of growing and aging”

Below is a chronology of his medical ordeal.

Paul Andrei's Story

2 months old (August 2017) Heart Murmur was detected. Advised to consult Pedia-Cardiologist. The doctor said that it was normal and will have another follow-up after 6 months to check if the Heart Murmur is gone or developed for further diagnosis or treatment.

4 months old (October 2017) A. Diagnosed with Overgrowth Syndrome by Pedia-Dermatologist and was referred to Pedia-Geneticist and was diagnosed with Hemihypertrophy. Several tests were done and the results are normal. We were also referred to Developmental Pediatrician and Behavioral Specialist, results are also normal and Andrei is on track with his development. Several tests as requested by a hematologist and an orthopedic doctor and a nephrologist doctor were done and showed normal results.

B. Monocular Elevation Deficiency Syndrome, work up until given the diagnosis that at least two operations for the eye. The lazy eye was also noted that might need another surgery for the eyelid.

2 yrs. old (June 17, 2019) First eye operation was done, the X-ray result is normal and no Heart Murmur was detected.

4yrs. old and 9 months (March 13, 2022) We need to undergo several tests before the eye surgery.

(March 15, 2022) X-ray result - The heart size appears prominent with normal to mildly increased pulmonary vascularity. We were referred to Pedia-Cardiologist for further investigation.

(March 19, 2022) Confirmed that his heart size slightly increased and has Heart Murmur and needs to undergo 2Decho. Still, was given clearance to proceed with his eye operation.

(March 22, 2022) A second eye operation was done.

(April 5, 2022) 2Decho was done and below are the following diagnosis:

* Atrial Septal Defect Secundum measuring 1.77-2.0cm* Superior Rim 9.6mm * Inferior Rim 14mm * Posterior Rim 5.7mm Other Interpretation: * Intact Ventricular Septum * Almost Paradoxical Motion of the Ventricular Septum * Dilated right ventricle * Normal AV valves * Normal semilunar valves * No patent ductus arteriosus * Normal Pulmonary Veins * No other abnormalities noted.

Pediatric Cardiologist discussed options to close the hole through open-heart surgery or catheterization procedure.
