The Association of Pastoralist Professional Women and Youth in Kenya over the coming days is aiming to raise $ 5000 but we can’t do it without your help. The Association of Pastoralist Professional Women and Youth in Kenya (APPWYK) is an organization that was formed with a mission to support women and youth from pastoral regions in Kenya in order to promote cultural, environmental and educational development of pastoralist women and youth.
Due to the ongoing global pandemic of the coronavirus, we make an appeal to friends to come together and support the pastoral communities living in Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River, Isiolo, Kajiado, Turkana, Samburu, West Pokot and Marsabit counties. COVID 19 has seriously affected normal lives of the pastoralists and it has an inflicting impact on the economy of the pastoralist community. The recent infestation by Locust in Northern Kenya has left major devastation and this pandemic is an additional adversity and has affected the livelihood of the pastoralist.
Efforts by the government in flattening the curve has resulted in strict measures such as the closure of live animal markets in Garissa, Kajiado, Wajir, Mandera, Turkana, West Pokot, Isiolo and Marsabit which was a major income generating activity for the counties. The milk supply to the bigger market (Hotels) has been affected significantly. In addition, the closure of livestock export markets in the Middle East has reduced the income obtained by the Pastoralists.
The money collected on this site will be purely used to buy food stuff( flour, cooking oil, rice), sanitary pads, face masks, soap and hand sanitizers. One of the preventive measure of the conoravirus (COVID 19) is washing hands and sanitizing them and most the people living in these areas have no access to had sanitizers and soaps. If you are able to give at any donations at any level it will help dearly. Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts in combating COVID 19. We are grateful for your generous donations.
