Thanks for taking the time to check out our fundraising page!
As you've probably guessed from the title, we are running the Paris Marathon on Sunday 7th April. It will be the first marathon either of us has ever run (and probably the last!). We've been training hard over the last few months and hope this will help keep us upright around the Parisian streets in April.
We would like to raise funds for a cause that is very important to us. Laura's nephew, Joseph McLaughlin (or Joey Mac as we know him) found out last year that he has a very rare genetic heart condition. It's called Long QT Syndrome, which you can read about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_QT_syndrome
Since he was diagnosed, Joey has been told not to run, jump, get over-excited or partake in anything that causes an increase in heartrate, for fear that his heart will suddenly stop. As you can imagine, this is difficult for an 11-year-old lad who is boundless with energy!
Joey is going to high school next year. Unfortunately, the school that Joey is going to attend, like his current school, does not have a defribrillator. If a defribrillator was installed in the school, Joey would have much more freedom to run, play and enjoy the next adventure of his young life.
We think he should be able to do that with as little fuss as possible, which is why we're not telling him that we're raising funds for a defibrillator to be installed in his secondary school. It will hopefully just be there.
If you can help us do that, we will be extremely grateful!
Every single penny of the funds we raise will go towards the purchase of a defibrillator for Joey's school. We hope that it will never be needed, but it might just save someone's life in the future. We also hope that the local authority will see the installation of a defibrillator as a wise move and consider placing them in other schools.
Thanks for reading!
