Campaign Story
First off, we would just like to say a big thank you for supporting our simple cause to feed the families in Payatas, especially with the number of COVID-19 cases rising.
Meet Ate Jhona, our foster mom in one of our student interactions back in high school. A strong-willed mom of four, Ate Jhona has been very active in supporting her community. She even became a member of the Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Committee at one point. But, right now, there's only so much she could do for her community.
Current Dilemma
Given the rise of the global pandemic, we understand that the government is doing its best during this time by implementing strict regulations in order to prevent the virus from spreading.
This include:
- Limiting access to food markets to only those with quarantine passes.
- Reducing food market operating hours by cutting 5 hours from the normal schedule.
However, these same regulations prevent Ate Jhona's family from getting access to food. In fact, they've already reached a point where her family of six is squeezing only 4 kilos of rice a week. Our hearts broke when we heard this.
Our Initiative "Para sa'yo, Nay"
So, together with Ate Jhona, we plan to seek outside help in order to provide not only rice but food to her household and to the houses of 30 other families living along the same street. To do this, we have partnered directly with a wholesaler to deliver sacks of rice to Payatas. Once delivered, Ate Jhona will then distribute rice to the rest of her community members who are also deprived of food.
Our Goal
We commit to continuously provide rice to these families as much as we can with all our donations. We aim to provide 6 sacks of rice (300kg) to be distributed evenly to each family — enough to feed them for about a week. In fact, with just Php364, we can already purchase 10kg of rice that will be enough for one family to last a week.
But, we will not stop. As long as we have funds, we will bring in the orders and provide sustenance for as long as we can - this is not a one time charity thing.
Our Hope
We believe it is our obligation to help in any way we can. While we can't feed the whole area of Payatas, we know we can make a difference in the lives of these 30 families by putting food on their plates everyday, most especially during these challenging times.
This is the first time we're doing something like this. And we hope you guys can support this simple initiative to help lessen the anxiety and suffering that our foster mom and the rest of the families are experiencing right now.
Let's fights this together!
