Campaign Story
My father, Artemio O. Estrera was rushed to University of Santo Thomas Hospital last March 8, 2017 due to high grade fever, massive stomach pain and jaundice (yellowing of skin and eyes). It was found that he has a pancreatic tumor which blocks the flow of bile from his liver to small intestine. His doctors suggested removing the tumor the soonest possible time and that 7-hour operation took place last March 14.
However, during surgery, it was discovered that tumor removal would no longer be possible as it was already a full blown Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. There are usually no symptoms in the disease's early stages and symptoms that are specific enough to suggest pancreatic cancer typically do not develop until the disease has reached an advanced stage. So, they proceeded in doing a double bypass surgery instead to restore bile flow.
Our hospital running balance is currently at PHP 200,000 or equivalent to USD 4,000. This DOES NOT include daily costs of medications and laboratory tests – which are being paid on cash basis. This also means we need to have constant available cash on hand. His daily meds cost on average at PHP 10,000 or USD 200. Today, March 29, marks his 3rd week in the hospital and as of this date, we've already shelled out almost PHP 300,000 or USD 6,000 for his meds and procedures. All our family's savings have been totally used up since we're not wealthy and we only came from a regular working class family. He will be referred to Oncology for cancer treatment and possible chemotherapy once he recovers from surgery, which will also require funds.
With this, I and my family are humbly asking for help from you. Any cash amount that you can spare will be greatly appreciated and would aid in extending the life of my father. If it will be more convenient, you may send your peso donations in the following accounts:
