Her doctor says she has several months left to live. No, she doesn’t smoke. And no, she doesn’t have asthma. She has Stage 4 Lung Cancer.

Generosa “Acay” Pesayco Arevalo or MamaKay as she is fondly called needs your HELP. MamaKay is a 5th Grade school teacher in Bugasong Central School - Bugasong, Antique. She had been guiding and nurturing young kids for almost 30 years now for the government. She was very healthy and active in the past few years and the news came as a shock when she was diagnosed January of this year 2021.

HER TEACHING PATH

The passion she had on children and on doing her job inspired me to be a teacher too for children with special needs. I remember climbing mountains and crossing rivers too when I was a little kid and had been begging to take me with her so I can see her teach and pull some of her students for a “class” where I get to play “teacher”. Back then, she was in-charged of the school’s Boy Scouts. That meant I get to come along too and learn basic survival skills in the wild - we get to climb more mountains, cross more rivers, tie and untie complicated knots, apply first-aid on a mannequin, start bonfires and sing and dance around them, cook rice in a bamboo stem and make new friends from different troops. I have learnt a lot from those though I was a small kid and get to apply several on different occasions. I’m sure her students do too.

She’s always giving 200% when doing her job and that’s where I got that drive too for my jobs. She’s a teacher but she is also a mother - she had been a farmer, a painter, a maid, an entrepreneur, a carpenter, a historian, a guidance counselor, a cook, a leader of student-leaders and many more. She wore different hats on her 30 years of teaching and I know it made her happy.

She would go to school at 6AM in the morning and leave for home at 7PM (sometimes 10PM). Most of her weekends would be spent at school (cultivating her plants or redecorating her room as another grading period had passed). Her summer and holiday breaks will be spent 80% of the time on school-related work as well.

When her students will be attending a seminar or a competition on a distant town, she would go along and sometimes spend money out of her own pocket just so her students will have supervision.

No, I don’t blame her and her work. She loved every second of it. It made her happy and that’s enough. I was a teacher and I get to experience the feeling on my 2 years of service.

Why did I include it on my post? So everyone will know the goodness that she’s living.

Now, I am asking for everyone’s prayer. A whisper to our God will go a long way. I know that God will listen - He always listens.

DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SPARE?

Though I have work and my father too, we have spent all of our savings and loans in the past 3 months going back and forth to Iloilo for her chemotherapy. Each chemotherapy cycle costs PHP40,000 (USD 800). On Sunday, April 4th, we rushed her to the hospital as she had been complaining she can’t breath properly for 3 days. After her Thoracentesis, she would be undergoing biopy and CT-scan to see if we’ll still continue with Chemotherapy. This is the reason for our campaign. Any amount can change the world for her. Every peso will count.

With your change, MamaKay can continue inspiring generations of students and prepare them for the world.

We NEED you. We NEED your PRAYERS.

Please help me keep my mom much longer.
