Update: My father has been transferred to Hakjang Keunsol Medical Hospital for physical therapy and rehabilitation. The monthly hospital bill is 500,000 Philippine Pesos (approx. 10 million Korean Won or $10,000).
Thank you very much for supporting our campaign.
My father has always used his time to care for our family and do many volunteering works.
For a year, through our small online store, my sister and I saved money to bring him and our mother to a vacation in South Korea.
He enjoyed literally every inch of the places we went to. And as if a kid, he was delighted with even the smallest things.
But on November 23, 2018, around 12nn in Korea, when we were about to go out of the accommodation, he suddenly felt dizzy and told us he was having a stroke.
Our youngest went to the lobby and the guard immediately called an ambulance. They came in about 2 minutes and my father was rushed to Inje University Haeundae Paik Hospital. Just a few moments after arriving, they found out that there was an intracerebral hemorrhage and surgery had to be done.
The Hospital Liaison Committee (HLC), whom we called while in the ambulance, arrived and explained about our stand.
Bloodless surgery was done.
He was transferred to the ICU and we were informed that the pressure from the swelling of the brain put my father in coma.
Many Korean brothers and sisters came rushing too. Despite meeting us for the first time, we were asked to move and stay with a family who live near the hospital.
The next day he started responding to stimulations. There were ups and downs, but soon the bleeding stopped and he continued to show improvements day by day. Something that surprised even his surgeon who said when he first did the surgery, he thought he would only last for two days. Another evidence for us that Jehovah is holding his right hand (Isaiah 41:10).
Blood alternatives, such as EPO, were also administered continually.
Weeks passed and the ventilator was removed as he could already breathe on his own. Vital signs continued to be stable also.
Soon, after more than three weeks in the ICU, he was finally transferred to the general room where two family members, together with the nurses, attend to him.
Continued care in the hospital is needed as we wait for the swelling of the brain to fully subside. How long it would take?
No one can know exactly.
Take for example, a black eye. It is relatively small but usually takes 2 weeks to heal. So we can only imagine the time needed for the brain swelling to go away. It could take a few months.
But as we spend 24 hours a day with him now, we see every further improvements as the brain slowly heals. Only when you are able to be with him 24 hours a day that you can differentiate what they call 'reflexes' from actual movements. You will see things that even a CT scan wont show.
My father will recover.
No wishful thinking.
Jehovah had given us so much evidences and continues to do so.
My father is presently confined in Inje University Haeundae Paik Hospital. The monthly hospital bill is 1 million Philippine Pesos (approx. 20 million Korean Won or $20,000). Therapies are also expected to follow.
Marcos Banez, now called Baneju in Korean, is a loving husband and a great family head to 4 children.
A second father to 2 in-laws.
A grandfather to 5 cute kids who think their grandpa can fix everything.
A great friend to younger and older ones.
....please be a part of his recovery.
Thank you very much.
