We, the members of PANSOL CHOIR, a community/church choir of Sta. Maria Della Strada Parish in Brgy. Pansol, Quezon City, would like to invite you to partner with us this year as we pursue opportunities that will further help us nurture excellence in our choral singing and inspire one another to share and continue in our mission.

SERVICE

The Choir regularly serves at the Parish of Sta. Maria Della Strada in Quezon City, Philippines in various venues such as the SMDS Main Church, Pansol Chapel, LGV Subdivision, and UP Town Center.

As part of our 48th Anniversary Celebration, an Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass in Pansol Chapel and a simple Salu-salo with some former members and friends were held last February 2018. Since its inception, the Choir has been blessed with inspiring individuals who nurtured the growth of the choir and its members. It was a great opportunity to meet and thank them as well as to keep everyone updated on the Choir’s plans for the future.

INSPIRATION

Following the success of our first-ever participation in the 6th Bali International Choir Festival last year where we won 5 gold medals and a category winner trophy, we are set to join another international choir competition this year which is the 1st Taipei International Choir Competition to be held starting July 31 to August 3, 2018 in Taipei, Taiwan. We believe that our Choir’s continuing program to participate in local and international choir competitions is a great opportunity for us to cultivate meaningful choral experiences with one another.

Help us send our delegation of 26 participants including 6 students and share in making our dreams come true.

NURTURE

As we dedicate 2018 to be the Choir’s Year of Nurture, the PANSOL Choir’s CAMP HARMONY 2018 promises to be bigger, bolder and better than ever. CAMP HARMONY aims to provide a holistic approach in engaging and developing our participants in different levels such as spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional. Filled with fun games and activities for spiritual renewal, musical development, and teambuilding, it aims to foster the spirit of teamwork, collaboration and friendship as well as to cultivate the culture of learning among our participants.

Our Nurture Programs also include conducting choral clinics, sending our members to music classes, and continuing our regular rehearsals and choral trainings.

GENEROSITY

We also seek your support to continue with our annual outreach program for the benefit of our chosen organization or group as part of our mission of giving back to our communities through charitable activities and volunteer work. Our Balik-Handog Program also includes our monthly offering to the SMDS Ka-partner ni Kristo Mission Partnership Program and our Student Scholarship Program to provide financial assistance to our deserving student members.

In this regard, we would like to appeal to your generosity and seek financial support to help us in our mission. Any amount of financial support you can give will greatly help us in our mission. Your Donations will be allocated in support of our 2018 programs for each of our 4 Mission Areas as follows: Service - 5%; Inspiration - 35%; Nurture - 50%; and Generosity - 10%.

If you wish to send your donations via bank transfers or direct bank deposits, kindly send us a Facebook message and we will send you the bank details. (www.facebook.com/thepansolchoir)

ABOUT PANSOL CHOIR

The PANSOL Choir began singing together in 1970 as a community choir in Brgy. Pansol, Quezon City, Philippines primarily to make Eucharistic celebrations more meaningful through sound interpretations of liturgical music. Since then, the PANSOL Choir has been home to generations of choral enthusiasts and has been blessed with inspiring and generous people who continue to nurture and expand its rich history of ministry and choral excellence.

The Choir earned the recognition as a parish choir when the Parish of the Sta. Maria della Strada was established in 1981 under Fr. Patricio “Pat” H. Lim.

In 1983, the PANSOL Choir came under the tutelage of Fr. Eduardo “Honti” P. Hontiveros, SJ and became the Choir’s first musical director. He guided the training of the choir, made musical arrangements of his liturgical compositions for the Choir and led the Choir in visiting other parishes through the "Panunuluyan", which became a Christmas traditional presentation in the Philippines.

The Choir’s first major concert was held in August 1985, titled “Maria, Ina ng Pilipinas” and was held at the Sta. Maria della Strada (SMDS) Parish to raise funds for the construction of the parish social hall. Repeat performances were held in other parishes in Bicol, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cavite and Baguio. The Choir was also featured in two recording productions: “Panunuluyan” in 1984 and “Maria, Ina ng Pilipinas” in 1986 under the guidance of Fr. Honti.

Because of Fr. Honti’s deteriorating health, he had to retire leaving the Choir to stand on its own with the more musically gifted members taking turns in leadership. They learned songs sans a conductor by keenly listening to recordings of the more professional groups.

The Choir was later introduced to members of the world renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers (Madz) through the auspices of a group of SMDS Parish volunteers. As a response to SMDS’s call for vocal coaches to train different liturgical groups of the Parish, the Madrigal Quartet, composed of Ms. Aurelia “Baby” Malvar, Ms. Candida “Candy” Cauilan, Mr. Oscar Pantaleon and Mr. Jonathan Zaens, marked their debut as conductors at a special concert in December 1990 at SMDS Parish. Finding potential in the group, the Madz Quartet continued the musical direction of the Choir, thereby widening its musical repertoire from liturgical and inspirational songs to popular, folk, classical and cross-cultural pieces.

In March 1991, with only a month of rigorous training, the Choir gave a very well-received concert, a special offering to their former mentor and friend, Fr. Honti.

The musical direction under the Madrigal Singers paved the way for the Choir to actively continue inspiring its audiences through concerts and choral competitions. Working with the Madz Quartet later qualified the Choir to participate in the “Madrigal et al”, a choral festival series organized by the Madz and participated by various choirs under the Madz’s tutelage held in various venues such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) in Roxas Boulevard, Manila and the PhilAm Life Auditorium in U.N. Avenue, Manila. The Madrigal et al Series III was the Choir’s first participation in the choral festival series held on August 10, 1991 at the CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo. It was on this auspicious occasion that the Choir began its long-term friendship with its then accompanist and later its musical director, Mr. Mark Anthony Carpio, the present Choirmaster of the Philippine Madrigal Singers.

In 1999, the Choir was declared Grand Champion and was accorded all the category awards in I Concurso Coral de Ateneo with Conductor Mark Anthony Carpio.

Throughout its history, the Choir has participated and earned distinction through its winning performances in other choral competitions, which are as follows:

  • 2nd Place in Himig-Ugnayan (Vicariate of St. Martin de Porres) Inter-parish Choral Fest in 1991 with Conductor Jonathan Zaens;
  • Grand Champion in the Quezon City Himig ng Kabataan Choral Competition in 1992 with Conductress Aurelia Malvar;
  • 3rd Place in the 1994 Himig ng Pasko Choral Fest with Conductress Aurelia Malvar;
  • 2nd Place in the First District 3 of Quezon City Choral Competition (representing the Sta. Maria Della Strada Parish) in 2012 with Conductor Antonio Rey Manuel “Arman” Ferrer;
  • 3rd Place in the 2017 Himig ng Kabataan: Alay kay Don Bosco Choral Competition with Conductor Arman Ferrer;
  • 2nd runner-up in the 2017 Harana para sa Basilica organized by the San Sebastian College – Recoletos Manila; and
  • 1st runner-up in the 2018 Clarion Call Music Chorale Competition.

In July 2017, the Choir participated in the 6th Bali International Choir Festival with Conductor Arman Ferrer. This was the first time that the Choir joined an international choral competition and brought home 5 gold medals and a Category Winner trophy after achieving the following:

  • Gold Level IV and Category Winner (Musica Sacra Category), Gold Level V (Gospel & Spiritual Category), and Gold Level II (Mixed Choir Category);
  • Gold Medalist in the Championship Round of the Musica Sacra Category;
  • Gold Medalist in the Championship Round of the Gospel & Spiritual Category.

From its humble beginnings, the Choir has blossomed into an institution that aims to provide a unique venue for individuals to hone their choral music skills, share their talents, and actively participate in community activities and programs. The Choir also accepts invitations to sing in weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, funeral and memorial services and other special occasions and events. The Choir also conducts outreach programs, volunteer work, spiritual formation and choral trainings.

The Choir regularly serves at the Parish of Sta. Maria Della Strada in Quezon City, Philippines in various venues such as the SMDS Main Church, Pansol Chapel, LGV Subdivision, and UP Town Center.

Inspired by strong love and passion for music, the PANSOL Choir continues its liturgical and apostolic mission in songs... singing together to channel God's love to everyone and to cultivate meaningful choral experiences that activate service, inspiration, nurture and generosity.
