Pam & Brad’s Kilimanjaro Challenge

BRIEFING ON KC7 AND ITS CAUSE 

In September 2013 me and my courageous son, Brad Lee, who is turning 15 in February, are taking up the Kilimanjaro Challenge (KC7), climbing the highest mountain in Africa in the hope of reaching the summit - for a lifetime experience that will bond us together and all for a good cause! KC7 is going to fund raise for the missionary movement 'Jesus in thy neighbour' to help raise a home for 100 disabled kids in Africa. The present facilities (circa 30 km from our projected site) has been condemned and presently houses 35 children. The total cost for the project will be of 120,000 euro, KC7 being responsible for financing the first phase (60,000 euro). 

We will have to::

- endure months of intesinve training, with determination and comittment to be in a position fit enough to climb the mountain and reach the summit; 

- fund raise for the cause. 

THE INFAMOUS MOUNTAIN

Kilimanjaro, with its peak (Uhuru) at 5, 895metres is the highest free-standing mountain on the planet and is located in Tanzania in East Africa. Although no technical expertise is required, the trek is a very challenging feat and making it all the way to the top is not without its dangers. Rarified (oxygen-deprived) air, freezing temperatures, strong winds and energy-sapping screes of shale and ice will all take their toll. 

HOW WE CAME ACROSS THIS CHALLENGE

(On a typical gloomy October Monday morning correspondence by email between best friends)

Maria: Good morning sunshine!!! How was your weekend? summer is over :( what shall we plan for 2013?! please highlight my day! London? New York? Thailand?!

Pam: Hey pumpkin!!! me monday blues big time need some cheering up! Brad is really worrying me after Shanice's death he's withdrawn and I don't know what I can do more to cheer him up ! :((( I vote for Thailand! you think Brad will enjoy it there?! If were going for a long holiday I have to tag him along! and you know how it is these days he doesn't want to spend time with me, moreover three weeks or so!!!

Maria: oh these teenagers! but can't really blame him of Shanice :((( give it some time maybe he'll get back on track........then what do you think would be best?! we'll take him to the adventerous side of Thailand? or else...what if?? we do the kilimanjaro challenge?? Do you think he'll be up for it?!

Pam: Kilmanjaro Challenge?! mar your drunk or something?? ME UP the kilimanjaro ?? lolllll this is like the joke of the year :D can i wear my stilettos there?? ahhahaaha

Maria: Oh come on it will be fun! I'm sure Brad will be up for it! Come one be a sport!

Pam: Forget it honey :D better go for the Greek Islands or something of the sort...:D sweetie gotta go I'm drowning here ...talk later!!! XXXX

(Over dinner):

Pam: Guess what Maria came up with this year..doing the Kilimanjaro Challenge ahahhahha 

(bursting into fits of laughter stands up to wash dishes)

Brad: hmmm .....so what does this entail mom?!

Pam (suprised that he even registered what she said): The Kilimanjaro Challenge?! A number of persons from Malta join up to climb the higest mountain in Africa for a worthy cause!!! mainly to fund raise for kids with HIV and other similar illnesses!!! It requires months of intensive training and dedication comittment and sacrifice to reach their goal....don't tell me your seriously interested?!

Brad: Why not? You know that if it's for a good cause I'm going to say yes! I've always wanted to do soemthing to help others, and since Shanice passed away I've been feeling an emptiness inside me......maybe this will help me accept reality and start over a new page..... 

Pam (stopping in her tracks and now giving him her full attention): Baby are you serious? You think this will help you?! But what about your studies, how will you cope with that?! This is going to take up a lot of your time!

Brad: Mom! I'll manage......I think it can even help me with my studies mum....it is just what I need at the moment....Let's do it!

Pam: Oh honey! for you I would cross the world and back to see you happy! ..i just want you to grow up in a fine man! I think this will be a lifetime experience for us...and all this for a good cause!! We will both come out better persons after this I'm sure!!

Brad: For sure Mom! For once I think your right :))))

OUR PLEA

We started off wanting to do this challenge for a lifetime experience that will bond us and change our lives forever. However hearing and seeing what Dun George Grima is doing for these kids has touched our hearts and driven us to want it more!

 We will be creating a number of fund raising events from now to September, we would appreciate if you could participate in these activities and contribute to the cause. If this is not possible, we would appreciate if you could donate Eur1 donation, kindly keep in mind that we have to reach a minimum of fund raising of Eur3k. These kids really need your help, every little counts!!!!
