PALESTINIANS DESERVE HUMAN RIGHTS, DIGNITY, JUSTICE & DEMOCRACY!

We are activists, based in the United Kingdom, who believe the Palestinian people deserve peace, justice, basic human rights, individual freedoms, and their own State, based on international law. (In other words, the Palestinians deserve the same rights we enjoy!)

We want to start an intensive campaign of letter writing (letters sent by traditional postal mail) to influential British figures, urging them to voice their support for a just future for the Palestinian people. The influential individuals we intend to intensively lobby include:

• All 650 Members of the House of Commons (MPs)
• All 790 Members of the House of Lords (Lords)
• All 129 Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs)
• All 60 Members of the National Assembly for Wales (AMs)
• All 108 Members of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLAs)
• Mayors and Councillors
• Trade Union leaders and officials
• Student leaders
• Religious leaders
• Hundreds of other influential figures in industry, media and entertainment

We intend to write to these individuals on a regular basis, providing up-to-date news on the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and refugee camps, and stressing the importance and urgency for them to speak-out on this issue to ensure there is a renewed focus and urgency on ending the decades-long occupation. Our letter-writing campaign is designed to make sure the issue is kept in mind and momentum is maintained and strengthened!

We demand a new awareness in Britain of the Palestinian cause and a swell of support for justice and human rights for the Palestinian people! This is an ambitious aim, of course, but we are confident our campaign of mass lobbying by postal mail can play a significant part in raising awareness of this issue!

We will do everything in our power to ensure sure that our lobbying campaign is effectively, positively and honestly conducted! The biggest cost to our campaign will be postage costs plus paper, envelopes, printer cartridges. We also want to print information leaflets (or even small brochures) providing additional information about the issue, but this will depend on how much money the campaign raises, as our priority will be the letters. We will use UK second-class post (the most cost-effective means of delivery), which costs 54 pence (UK pounds sterling) per letter, and any other bulk mail discounts available from the Post Office. As we will be writing thousands of letters, the cost will be considerable but we believe letters sent by postal mail to parliaments, constituency offices, head offices and institutions will be hard for recipients to ignore and will prompt the recipients to write a response. We will put responses we receive online, so the attitudes and views of the respondents to the Palestinian issue can be more widely known.

We call upon you to support our campaign with a donation, if you can afford it, – and, generally, to add your voice to this just cause: British workers, trade unionists, leaders, students, mothers, fathers, religious communities, everyone - this is a call to you to peacefully and positively help to raise the profile of the desperate plight of the Palestinian people!

(Remember, it was the pressure from ordinary British people campaigning peacefully and speaking out against injustice, combined with international pressure, that lead to the release of Nelson Mandela and the negotiated transition to a peaceful, democratic South Africa! We hope to see a peaceful, democratic Palestinian State in our lifetimes!)

The Palestinian people deserve justice; they deserve to be able to live in peace, to live without constant fear, to work & prosper, to enjoy the right to travel freely, and to have their children educated and offered a life of dignity and opportunity!
