Turning pain into praise!
Join me on my journey to overcoming chronic pain.

If you haven’t heard or don’t know why you haven’t seen me around the last six months it’s because I’ve been fighting a pretty difficult challenge and unfortunately it’s caused me to be bed ridden.

Over the last few years I’ve struggled with chronic pain around my heart area that’s been debilitating and sometimes paralyzing. Pain that’s caused me to black out or throw up or just kept me curled up in a ball waiting for it to ease. This has been one of the most challenging seasons requiring me to choose to fight it everyday. Earlier this year doctors found nerves in my chest that were damaged and could not be healed (medically). We tried two procedures in the year to try and find pain relief but unfortunately nothing has helped, despite tons of pain patches, medication and procedures.

Then after multiple doctors visits to more than 10 different specialists, we finally found a doctor able to minimize the pain, with a medical aid approved Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) procedure which interrupts the pain signals as they approach the brain. This is happening in two parts, exactly two weeks from today! The 17th and 31st of January! To say we are excited is an understatement!

As you can imagine, being bed ridden from July 2018, I have been unable to work and honor my employment contract. I was fortunate enough to be involved with the absolute best family at Urban Edge Church that not only supported Alison and I, by praying for us, trusting God for healing and especially having our lead Pastor, Ps Sean Phillipps, walking alongside us this whole journey. During this past period Urban Edge supported us financially even though I wasn’t able to work- and for that I cannot be thankful enough!

But as 2020 starts, I now find myself unemployed, with a lot of medical bills that have piled up as well as some expensive procedures that the medical aid doesn't fully cover. I am hoping to qualify for some sort of disability remuneration, but at this stage seems unlikely. I fully believe God provides for His children and that as He has all along, will continue to do so.

In faith Alison and I have decided to start a 'Crowd Funder' to help us in this season and want to invite you, if you feel led on your heart, to contribute in making a donation to our “Pain into Praisefund and to join Alison and I on our journey, we would sincerely appreciate it.

Our dream for this journey is that people would be encouraged and motivated in their faith. What a waste it would be to go through this difficult season and not to have grown or helped other people grow. I often feel buried under the challenges of chronic pain only to remember that I’m not buried but rather planted! That God is going to produce a harvest that glorifies His name and for His purposes. In it I’ve learnt that God is always good even when I’m not.

As you continue to follow and support us, we want to say thank you for all the messages, prayers, scriptures and support - every message is read and builds Alison and I up in faith, thank you!

Today marks two weeks until the first of two operations. I’ll be sharing more on how that works and what’s going to happen on social media. You can find me on Facebook or Instagram for more information. I would lastly just ask that if you are comfortable to, to please share this page on your social media as it helps Alison and I to get more support.
