This fundraising page is something we hadn't originally considered doing but we received lots of encouragement from friends who wanted to be able to support Paige, so here it is...
This is my step-daughter, Paige. Paige is 19 years old, and last year she made the brave decision to have breast reduction surgery.
Paige originally talked to her doctor and was referred to a Specialist in the public health sector however, prior to even seeing the specialist, she received a phone call to say that her application was being declined. Paige knew she couldn't keep going the way she had been, with the toll it was taking on her body. Things were only going to get worse for her and so she made the decision to go private.
Privately, the surgery would cost $14,800, of which our Southern Cross Health Insurance would cover $2,500. This would still leave Paige with a whopping $12,300 personal loan to pay off. Such a huge burden for a 19 year old who's only been working full-time for just on a year. But Paige was totally committed. She made the incredibly mature and life changing decision to take her future into her own hands - she knew that getting it done sooner rather than later would avoid many more issues down the track given that, as a young and healthy teenager, it was already having a huge impact on her overall wellbeing.
Being a size 10G, Paige was suffering from constant back & neck pain and regular headaches. It was already having an impact on her posture and she was struggling to make it through her work day without pain. She had always been a sporty & athletic kid but, as she got older, this was becoming more and more challenging, as was one of her biggest passions in life, dance. Even sleeping was uncomfortable and required the support of multiple pillows. Paige was having to buy her bras from specialist shops at extraordinary prices or online from overseas, but still no bras were able to provide enough support to enable her to lead the active lifestyle that she desired. In addition to the bra dilemma, she was having to buy size 14 tops and dresses that ill-fitted her slender size 10 frame.
Yesterday (26 June) was surgery day. Paige is now home and doing well, with no regrets and we are so proud of her.
Any support, no matter how small, would be so gratefully appreciated by Paige in helping her manage this very cumbersome loan. So far, we have been blown away by everyones messages of love and support, expressing how proud they are of Paige's inspiring courage.
Edited to add: Please note that we originally added Paige’s personal PayPal account for this however, GoGetFunded advised that a business PayPal account would make it easier for people to put through donations, as they wouldn’t have to sign up to PayPal themselves before being able to donate. As a result, payments will go via Luminesse Photography Ltd (My business), but rest assured, everything still ends up with Paige for her loan and Paige clearly sees what is donated. Thank you.
