Campaign Story
Paige is a hugely talented and much-loved DPhil (PhD) student at the University of Oxford's Oxford Internet Institute, a member of Wolfson College, Oxford, and an alumna of the University of Massachussetts at Amherst and University of California at San Diego. As a doctoral student at Oxford, she was passionately pursuing her dream of contributing to educational policy debates about the transformative role of technology teaching in schools when she was suddenly diagnosed with cancer while conducting her fieldwork in the US in February 2016.
As an American student studying full time in the UK, Paige would have received UK National Health Service care free of charge had the diagnosis been made in this country, but as she fell ill shortly after arrival in the US she will have to pay for the significant costs of her medical care and cannot return to the UK until recovered. Anyone who has ever experienced an illness in the US knows how incredibly expensive healthcare is in that country and can imagine how worrying it is to be a student with limited financial resources facing the daunting task of funding cancer treatment there.
Those of us in Oxford who know and care about Paige as a friend, student and colleague would dearly love to be able to help her through the next few months so that she can return to complete her studies here as soon as possible. Please do give whatever you can to help us reduce Paige's worries and keep this smart, sunny and inspiringly optimistic student focused on overcoming cancer and returning to finish her very important work at the University of Oxford.
