Campaign Story
Nanay's heart may be old...but Nanay's heart is gold.
Hello! First of all, I would like to say thank you for taking time to look into our fundraising. My name is Rhia. I am the 3rd grandchild of Valentina whom a lot of people fondly calls Nanay Banleng. She is a loving, thoughtful and generous grandmother to many people even with no blood relations.
On Aug. 24 while making a cup of her milk food supplement, she suddenly fainted and her head hit the floor. She suffered a head contusion and was bleeding. One of my cousins whom she is living with called us up to bring her to the hospital. What was decided that time was to bring her to a nearby hospital to have her treated while we look for a government institution where we can transfer her in case she needs to stay in the hospital and our funds are scarce.
While being treated her heart rate was significantly going down. Nanay Banleng's heart was failing. The next day the doctor advised us that she needed an angiogram and at that point we called up all her children and grandchildren to make a decision. The ER doctors then informed us that she might have a cardiac arrest as her heart rate and blood pressure was going down. We blindly made a call to do the angiogram and subsequently if needed an angioplasty.
During the angiogram, I and an aunt of mine were called in to show us the current state of her heart. It was free of any blockage and her veins were clean. The doctor was even surprised. Well, we were not. You see Nanay practices healthy living for a long time now, she enjoys eating fish and vegetables rather than red meat. She stopped smoking alhambra decades ago and does not drink alcohol at all.
However, her heart was still failing. The doctor said although her heart seemed to be healthy it was beating too slowly and may even stop at some time. She needed a pacemaker. We were given a quotation of how much the procedure would cost and we knew we could not come up with the amount anytime soon. Still we decided to proceed with getting Nanay a pacemaker. My cousin and aunt were able to come up with a sum of funds but it is nowhere near what we need. Me and my other cousins are taking care of the daily expenses as the hospital stopped our billing and placed us on a cash basis except for her confinement and the cost of the machines that she is on.
This is where we would like to knock on your kind hearts to help us raise the funds we need for Nanay Banleng. Her pacemaker procedure is scheduled for Aug 29, we are praying that the hospital would consider our promissory letter since it is a holiday here in the Philippines on Aug 28. We are looking into seeking assistance with government agencies and NGOs once offices are open.
PLEASE HELP US GIVE NANAY BANLENG A STRONGER HEART. A STRONGER HEART THAT STRONG WOMAN DESERVES.
