ABOUT THE FILM
Psychological Family Drama
A child-for-hire is rented out to couples interested in portraying the "perfect family", but as a genuine connection builds, he must question whether their family is possible, even if it doesn't fit the "perfect mould".
Elliot, a young boy, has grown up in a foster home all his life, and his dream is to one day get adopted. He works tirelessly to make himself appealing and desirable and one day, his dream of being “adopted” has finally come through. His parents, Angela and Chris, are eager to introduce Elliot to their friends, which makes Elliot feel like he’s finally found his family. However, when he realizes that his new parents are acting strangely about their relationship with Elliot, it pushes Elliot to find out the truth to what they seem to be hiding about his “adoption”, as they seem to have “adopted” Elliot for certain benefits instead.
The film is made to show just how much people are so obsessed with the idea of Image and how other people view them, so much so that they are willing to do anything to “fit in” so other people will not look down on them. The interesting thing about the film is that it is mainly portrayed from the rented child’s Point of view as he grows to discover that the idealized world that he has dreamed of, has been nothing but a lie. And as the audience goes on the journey to discover the truth alongside our protagonist, they will see just how much the desire to feel accepted by society psychologically impacts us, as we are willing to do anything to be accepted.
This film is really important to me, as I believe that the idea of portraying a “perfect life” to others has become increasingly more prevalent in our daily lives. And with the prevalence of social media becoming more rooted in our lifestyles, I believe that this topic of trying to fit in is something everyone has experienced. The effects of this are becoming more and more dangerous as the idea of face and status is becoming more important as our society becomes more shallow and materialistic, so much so we discriminate and cast a stigma over other people, shaming them if they are different.
I hope that with this film, I will be able to show just how obsessed we as a society have become as we have chosen to impress people that we do not even know, letting other people’s opinions dictate how we live our day to day lives, just because we desire validation. The more important thing is to be genuine to who we are, and not care so much about how others see us. We do not need to overcompensate, just so others will think that we are successful. By showing the extremes of how stigma affects us, I hope that we will forget about trying to live up to society's expectations and just be satisfied with what we have, and not try to chase for something shallow that we don’t.
WHERE WILL THE FUNDS GO TO?
The funding will be used to fund our various department, the "art", "equipment", "casting", "transportation" and welfare for the crew and cast members. We appreciate every bit of support that is given to us to make our final year project. We thank you for helping us to achieve our goal and to make the film to the best of our ability.
