overseas volunteer work ( orphanage)

I am a 17 year old female who wants to make a difference. I am planning a trip with "Plan my gap year" to volunteer at an orphanage in Sir Lanka, i have always wanted to work and help children, i just don't have the means to afford it, i live on my own in Toronto which is extremely tough but really my only option because my parents aren't in the picture. After adding the numbers up for a 3 week experience its going to cost me about 2177.00$ A generous lady i recently met who had said she wished she would have done this when she was my age already gave me 500.00$ i am grateful to anyone who has the means to help me help these children ! (:
