Our little fighter

It was just a regular day when I decided to take her to the doctor. Her fever had been on and off that past week - but the temperature never shot up, nothing to cause an alarm. Her appetite has reached its all-time low, though we thought she was just being extra picky.

It was a weekend, so I had to take her to the ER. It took longer than expected because of the number of patients. It was all routine - urine and blood. I asked the doctor if I could take her home after her blood has been collected, and I will just come back for the results, she agreed, so we went on our merry way.

I almost dozed off when the doctor called out my daughter's name, shockingly, she told me that she had to be taken back and should be admitted - her blood count apparently showed an alarmingly low count: WBC, RBC and platelets, everything. The doctor told me that she would have to rule out dengue because her fever never went above 38 degrees. I heaved a sigh of relief.

Fast forward to several days of staying in in the hospital, there have been so many tests done. But inspite of it all, my 8y/o never once twinged at any of the needles they poked on her tiny arm.

She needed to have blood transfused because her RBC has dropped so low. Afterwards, Xyleigh came back to her normal, bubbly self. Her color came back, and her lips were no longer paper white. We were so relieved, but another round of CBC was what it took to burst our bubble. Her RBCs were now at a normal rate, but still, her WBCs and platelets did not normalize - which was what the doctor hoped would happen after the transfusion. I was then asked to sign a consent form to perform a Bone Marrow Aspiration.

A couple of days after, I received the most dreaded SMS in my entire life: the results came back, and my little girl has leukemia.

Her healthcard has now all been used up, and we're not even halfway through the Induction (1st phase) phase. We're knocking on your generous hearts to help us come up with the funds for her chemotherapy. Any amount will be greatly appreciated, as well as your prayers.
