RAISING FUNDS FOR ERICH 💙
Personal note for a first time mom
A story of down syndrome, motherhood and self discovery
Our son Erich Frederik Alfred was born prematurely at 36 weeks in Pretoria West hospital on 25th of March 2021 💙
Preterm is defined as babies born alive before 37 weeks of pregnancy are completed. Extremely preterm (less than 28 weeks) very preterm (28 to 32 weeks) moderate to late preterm (32 to 37 weeks)
NICU babies are the survivors. They show us the power of faith and prayer and the human spirit.
We spent 14 days in Kalafong hospital of which 6 was in NICU. He was diagnosed with Down syndrome and still needs check ups and medical attention. Due to travel bans and lock downs I wasn't working most of last year and don't have medical insurance. He is still having difficulty to breath and feeding and I want to raise funds to get private medical help for him and have funds for future needs as I realize it's going to be a tough road ahead which I didn't plan for. I have managed to take him to a private pediatrician with the help of family and friends helping with funds, as I don't want to go back to the state hospital. After more than 2 weeks in not the most favorable circumstances in Kalafong hospital and after long days with him at home I think it was like 2am in the morning and asking the Generisits what to do, she says go to the hospital or get help, they need to check his breathing. I don't want to be admitted to that hospital again, so I posted a request on Facebook and was helped by many who opened their hearts. Although I don't want to end up with my little man in the state hospital again I want to shout out a big thank you to all the doctors and nurses and other mothers at both Pretoria West and Kalafong. 2020 and even this year has been really tough and it's not easy to say you need financial help. Asking for help makes me feel uneasy because it requires surrendering control to someone else but I don't have a lot and really need your help.

It’s been an incredibly stressful time for many reasons. One, struggling with my own health, my dad's health and care, and Erich's health. Little Erich started getting sick end of May and very quickly got worse. Taking care of him and my dad both sick and working and traveling I. . . . .

Today was a hard day. But still we are blessed that I could see Erich's doctor's. The Novalac Allernova formula I bought yesterday as an alternative to the HA we are using didn't work out at all. Although Erich was on this formula when he was smaller, he refused to. . . . .

To everyone who has reached out to us this past weeks thank you so much. From helping with rent, nappies and baby products, to helping us sell stuff to get through another day. We struggled through almost a week of no electricity due to cables burning in our area. Desperate. . . . .

Second thought about walking So been reading up and want to buy a pediatric walker for Erich. Gait training assists children with all kinds of disabilities to walk. Erich has low muscle tone and is a toe walker and this would be so helpful. Been trying to raise funds for. . . . .

So haven't been sharing much, seems like a week or 24 hours a day just ain't enough anymore.A bit of an update, Erich recently had his heart sonar and although I was hopeful the hole in his heart would close by the time he turns 1 it hasn't. So we'll. . . . .
