Our brother Luis Miguel needs help with medical and recovery bills after a 23 feet (7 Meters) fall.

Our family is deeply concerned that our son and brother Luis Miguel Azcona Acosta suffered a serious fall on June 28, 2021. While he was inspecting a repair project on the roof of his home, he lost his footing and fell backward to the ground 23 feet (7 meters).

To date, Luis Miguel has been operated on for a multi fragmentary fracture of the left iliac bone and L1 lumbar vertebrae. After surgery and MRI evaluation, the Traumatologist directed Luis Miguel to wear a thoracolumbar corset for 90 days and remain immobilized. He needs specialized post-surgery physical and occupational therapy for his lumbar vertebra injury and his pelvic fracture. He will be unable to work for at least 12 months. He is physically immobilized and faces a long recovery. Until now, Luis Miguel was a full-time student on a modest budget of small savings and temporary jobs. After the accident he lost his temporary job and the affiliation to public health.

As consequence of his tragic accident, Luis Miguel needs financial help urgently. His modest savings, plus family help, allowed him to pay partial medical costs of $18,500. We are asking for your help for additional medical expenses as follows:

1. 90-days hospitalization US $3,400;

2.Medications, supplies, equipment, laboratory tests, transportation, MRI, X-rays, US $5,680;

3. Physio and Occupational Therapies US $4,550; and,

4.Home Care, US $3,920. The estimated total amount is US $17,550.

It is admirable that Luis Miguel, at the age of 54, went back to school. He was required to update the last 2 years of high school. He then enrolled in a comprehensive First Degree with a Law Degree at the Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja, UTPL. The complete course work will be 5 years. He has already completed 6 semesters towards his Law Degree. He aspires to become a Prosecutor, then a Judge in his birthplace Quito, Ecuador.

Our brother Luis Miguel cares deeply for the environment. He is a Volunteer Member of the Board of Citizens lobbying at the Municipality of Quito. Their aim is to obtain optimal ecologically safe pedestrian and bicycle transportation in Quito, while reducing carbon footprint.

Luis Miguel must receive optimal medical care that will enable him to walk again. His goal is to complete his Law Degree, lead a fully productive life for himself, his family, and serve the Ecuadorian nation as a lawyer.
