We are a group of friends who has come together to help the family of a fallen friend. Cancer took her from us and this will be our last act of service, a last act of love.
About our friend:
Abigel S. Castro or much commonly referred to as Abi, was someone who had touched so many lives with the genuine friendship that only she could give. Abi was a naturally friendly person you see. She never really struggled in making friends wherever she went. And once that friendship is established, she will be there for you no matter what. She would go the extra mile and prioritize others needs first instead of her own. She was a person who you could really rely on whenever the going gets tough. She will listen to you, comfort you and make you laugh using her witty humor and strong, lovable charisma. She was the kind of person who would never leave or forget someone behind. A person who greatly cherished her relationship with her family and friends. She gave a lot of love and was loved in return by everyone around her.
And since this is Abi we’re talking about, we definitely cannot leave this part out as this is one of her key traits. She liked a lot of characters from different movies, comics, animes and mangas. She was fond of drawing and collecting action figures of her favorite characters. And yes, you guessed it correctly. Batman is the character who rules them all.
What happened to Abi?
June 2017 – Abi started feeling some pain in her sides and her abdominal area. They went to the doctor to have it checked and was then diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian cancer. She had undergone surgery which got both of her ovaries and appendix removed. 2 tumors the size of a melon was removed from her. Her recovery went well as she was able to regain her strength back and was able to live a normal life after the procedure. She was cancer free for the past year and only had routine checkups, tests and scans to monitor her health. Her meat intake has also been greatly lessened, eating only on rare occasions.
However, the tides have suddenly turned for the worst last June 2018. Abi had a complication in her kidney which started affecting her gallbladder. She underwent endoscopy where they found out that the cancer has metastasized and has already spread out into her lungs, blood, bones and other organs. She was taken in and out of the hospital for 2 weeks due to these complications. The effects were great as Abi’s body is starting to deteriorate fast. She was in great pain but did her best to mask it so as not to worry her family. She found it difficult to eat, to move and even speak. Each action and each movement required a tremendous amount of effort on her part.
In the morning of August 11, 2018, between 9 and 10 AM, her family said that she started having difficulty in breathing. And at 11 AM, Abigel Castro passed away and has been relieved of her pain. It was the day before her 26th birthday.
Where will these funds go?
Originally, we intended to start a fundraising campaign to help our friend pay for her chemotherapy treatment, but sadly, she passed away before we even got to start setting up the fundraiser. All the funds that will be donated will be given to Abi’s family in helping them pay off the medical expenses that has not been completely paid off. It is actually an amount much larger than our target goal. Let us help Abi’s family recover in our own little way, let us help them in lightening up the load that they’re carrying in this trying times especially as they are still in mourning. Abi has touched so many lives Now, we, Abi’s friends, would like to ask you to help us raise money to help her beloved family.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your donation.
Bea, Ione, Camille, Jenie, Judy.
