Orphanage Work

My name is Elana Payne, I'm an eighteen year old A-Level Student and I attend St Georges Academy, Lincolnshire. 

This summer I wish to help orphange children living in poverty in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka! My aim is to go to Sri Lanka for a period, no less than 2 weeks, and work in this area offering support in any way possible, hoping to improve their everyday life. I plan to travel during the summer school holidays of 2014. My trip will offer me the opportunity to experience a different culture and try to understand the real hardship that children of our country have never experienced. 

I have completed both bronze and silver DoE and I feel this would be a very important and worthwhile cause to help me towards my DoE Gold. The Gold Award requires me to spend at least a week away from home, developing new skills and helping others. This trip would not only count towards my final stages of my DofE but also embed life skills which can only improve me in my future endeavours.  

I expect the final cost to be in excess of £1200; one third of this money I shall personally raise through my newly paid weekend job; this will cover flight costs, insurance and food, however, this is a minimal paid job and due to my schooling and studying during this crucial school year, I will not be able to raise all the money through my weekend job. The remaining two thirds of this money, which will cover the programme costs, I am hoping to raise through fundraising events and hopefully a contributory donation to anyone willing to offer support.
