Orphanage Volunteering Project

My name is Helen Douglass, I am 19 years old and currently studying Law at the University of Nottingham. 

For one month between the dates of July 20th 2014 - August 17th 2014 I will be volunteering at a local childrens orphanage in Kumasi, a city in the Ashanti region of South Ghana. 

During my time in Ghana, I will be working alongside the staff at the orphange to help with teaching and caring for the children, some of whom have lost their parents, some come from abusive homes and some whos parents simply cannot afford to give them the care that they need.

These orphanages are very basic, having both limited staff and resources so this experience will give me the opportunity to give the children the individual attention they both desire and need. I will be organising games and activities for the children to get involved in and hopefully, even if it is only a small change, will be able to make some kind of difference to their lives during my short time there.  

Partaking in a programme such as this is something that I have always aspired to do and I am excited at the thought of being part of something which will not only benefit another community, but will help me with my lifes direction and providing me with a great sense of fullfilment. 

All the money raised is going towards a great cause and every single penny is greatly appreciated
