My name is Madalena and I’m studying Retail Management at Brighton University. I have been given the opportunity to volunteer in Sri Lanka for 6 weeks taking care of underprivileged children in an orphanage.
Over 21,000 children in Sri Lanka are orphans and due to the vast amounts of poverty they cannot afford to be given an education and do not receive the start in life they truly deserve. Many children at the orphanage have lost both parents whilst others ave been rescued from abusive families or have been given up by their families due to severe poverty.
During my time at the orphanage I will be working daily taking care of the children, teaching them how to read and write in English and other various skills that will enable them to have better educational opportunities and to build their confidence so they can grow to their full potential. I will also be organising fun games and activities with the children and give them the love and care they have been deprived of.
In order for me to be able to work with these children and complete the programme I need to fundraise £1500 by 14th April 2018. I would very much appreciate help in raising the money and I will be grateful for any amount so I can go and make a difference in these children’s lives!
