Orphanage Volunteer in Vietnam

Hi everyone!

I am going out to Vietnam for 3 months in september to help work in a buddist run orphanage in Hanoi. I hope that the trip will not only open my eyes to the selfless nature of those running the orphanage, but also help me to gain valuable life skills and experiences. Mornings are spent teaching the children about hygiene and basic English/alphabet skills through games and songs. Afternoon tasks vary from assisting the female monks with feeding the younger children, to organising communal activities for the kids, to helping the older children with their homework.

Throughout the day, volunteers are needed to care for the babies – which can involve washing the children and changing their clothes if necessary. Furthermore, some of the children suffer from a wide range of physical and mental disabilities such as Down Syndrome, deafness and limb deformities. These children require particular attention from the volunteers in order to engage them in activities and provide them with adequate stimulation.

 This trip is something i have wanted to do for a long time, and although living costs are low, vaccinations and malaria tablets can be expensive. Therefore i have set this page up in the hope that many small donations will help add up to my target.

The cost of the trip is £1190. This includes accomodation and 3 meals a day. The cost of flights is £610. I also need to raise money to help cover the costs of: insurance, CRB check, Visa which is about £200.
