My name is Orentia Spencer, I am 28 years of age and I currently reside in Barbados. I was accepted as a Premed III student at the American University of Barbados: School of Medicine, my initial start date was on January 6th 2019 but because of financial constraints and being unemployed for over a year I painfully decided to defer until September 2020. I am still in the process of looking for a job to finance my dreams but I have come to the realization that I cannot do it alone. I have always dreamt of being a Medical Doctor and I have always had the urge to give myself to others in need. I love working with people to solve problems, and building effective relationships that further positive social change. This contributes to my goal of becoming a Medical Doctor; I ultimately want to protect and improve a quality of life one person at a time. I completed my BSc. Degree in Biology in 2014 from the University of Guyana but eventually decided to move to Barbados because I desired more for myself, I consider Barbados my home even thought I have faced so much difficulties in finding employment I will not give up in the mist of the storm it has lead me on the path of fully finding my purpose and that is being able to selflessly serve and aid others. I currently write resumes and cover letters to keep my head afloat and to help others start their own careers. I have had the opportunity to help many clients in securing their dreams and I believe it is time I get to accomplish mine. But I can only do it with your help.
Upon being accepted at the American University: School of Medicine I felt a surge of self-worth and excitement. My drive had paid off; I deserved this. I was, and am, so grateful for the opportunity to pursue my dream. I'm aware that not everyone gets this. Though, the reality is, my tuition per year is 66000 US, which runs just over 4 years. This will total well over 200,000 Bajan Dollars. As supportive as my family have been throughout my university years, they simply do not have the money to finance me and because of my unemployment situation I am unable to apply for any loans even though I have tried multiple times. I would also appreciate if you can share and spread the word around so that I can start my medical degree successfully and pursue my dreams of being a doctor and give back to the community. Please help me to start and make all my years of hard work worth it.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. Regardless of your support, be it financial or in your thoughts, I am grateful. Please know that any amount is a huge help and your support is greatly appreciated.
