I am aiming to fundraise £3,000 by June 2016 so that I can volunteer, on behalf of Operation Wallacea, in the Amazon rainforest for 2 weeks.
Operation Wallacea is a reasearch- based chairty that works to protect and conserve rare and endangered species, sustainably manage over-fished coral reefs, work with local communities to improve thier house hold incomes, education and transport facilities and educate them on the importance of environmental protection and the need for conservation.
During my time in the Amazon I will carry out surveys on Primates, large mammals and game birds; the data from which will be used to look at the impact of recent climate change and examine the sustainability of hunting. I will also be executing much needed habitat surveys, to help to understand how the recent extreme flooding and droughts are impacting the vegetation, and how changes in animal populations are affecting the ecosystem; this data will be used to asses the best form of conservation in specific areas. Furthermore, I will be working with local Cocama people to educate them on sustainable fishing and logging, and to estimate the impact climate change is having on fish populations and thus on the local economy.
Thanks for your dontation girl!!
